Canine Mammary Tumors: Time to Second Tumor Investigation
Dogs that are spayed later in life are at greatly increased risk for the subsequent development of mammary gland tumor (MGT). Dogs that develop a MGT are highly predisposed to developing subsequent MGT in other mammary sites ("field carcinogenesis" theory). We wish to delineate the median time to development of a 2nd MGT in dogs. This information will be used in the development of a clinical trial investigating possible chemopreventive properties of a commercially available compound.
Inclusion criteria:
- Dogs with an initial histologically-confirmed diagnosis of MGT,
- Dogs which develop a 2nd histologically proven MGT sometime AFTER the diagnosis of the 1st MGT
Exclusion Criteria:
Dogs that have not developed a 2nd MGT.
