Creating a Model Employment Contract
Lawyers might love contracts, but for a veterinarian they can seem scary. Whether you are a prospective employee or an employer, the Model Employment Contract provides practical contract information with an explanation of legal provisions and fully customizable sections. This is a VIN Foundation initiative.

To help get you started, VIN Attorney Raphael Moore, JD, LLM, presented a rounds that explains the model contract in simple terms. You can read the transcript or listen to the session.

Those who have used it say it helped them work through the details without creating feelings of adversity between employer and employee.

You'll find a link to the VIN Foundation Library in the Practice Management and Misc. sections of the Main library.

Hydrocortisone in the management of acute hypoadrenocorticism in dogs: a retrospective series of 30 cases
Intravenous hydrocortisone infusion and fluid therapy for the management of acute hypoadrenocorticism is associated with a rapid resolution of hyperkalaemia and is well tolerated with few adverse effects. Regular electrolyte monitoring is required to ensure that rapid increases in sodium concentration are avoided.

Priming professionals for a complex communication environment: Findings from a pilot study
Factors such as time pressure, distractions, and profession-specific jargon can contribute to poor communication in complex working environments such as healthcare. Technical solutions are often sought to improve patient care when simple improvements in communication would suffice.

Urolithiasis in chinchillas: 15 cases (2007 to 2011)
There was recurrence of cystic calculi following cystotomy in 5/10 animals and median time to recurrence was 68 days (range: 19 to 440 days). Median survival time in chinchilla with urolith recurrence was 391 days (range: 74 to 1074 days) following initial diagnosis.

Ultrasound Recommended For Locating Foxtail Foreign Bodies In Dogs
If you deal with foxtails, you know that once they are gone the problem goes away. There is a recent paper using intraoperative U/S to help find them. In some of those, external U/S found them, but not all.

Cockatiel With Recurring Seizures And Broken Tail Feathers
You could try Levetiracetam. This is well tolerated in most birds. The dose and frequencies may need escalation, based on differences in species and individuals, and drug levels should be monitored.

Differentiating Between Food Allergies And Atopy; Drug Therapy For Atopic Dogs
For food allergies, lab tests are not any good and we have to rely on the diet trial. For environmental allergies in dogs, the skin test is the preference if the owner will go for referral; however, you can get a good response to immunotherapy based on serum testing, as well.

Chickens With Respiratory Disease; How Much Water Do Chickens Normally Drink?
On average, a chicken will drink between 1 and 2 cups of water per day, depending on temperature, humidity, health status, etc.
