Archives Highlights:
Clinical manifestations of chronic pancreatitis in English cocker spaniels.
Affected English cocker spaniels presented with a high frequency of KCS (n = 49), proteinuria (n = 47), anal gland disease (n = 36), atopy (n = 21), and other immune-mediated diseases (n = 16). Those with parti-color hair coats, particularly blue roan, had a strong association with chronic pancreatitis, suggesting a link between coat color and autoimmune conditions in this breed.
From the Cat’s Point of View: Creating a Cat Friendly Veterinary Environment
Prepare the examination table in advance with warm blankets sprayed with synthetic feline pheromones placed on nonslip surfaces (e.g., yoga mats). Spraying synthetic feline pheromones on the examination table 15 minutes before the physical examination has been shown to lower stress levels compared with placebo Synthetic feline pheromone diffusers are also recommended.
Recovery of ambulation in small, nonbrachycephalic dogs after conservative management of acute thoracolumbar disk extrusion.
Forty-nine of fifty-one (96%) of deep pain-positive and 10/21 (48%) of deep pain-negative dogs recovered ambulation within the 12-week period. The median time to ambulation was 11 and 25 days for deep pain-positive and -negative dogs, respectively. Reduction in spinal cord compression varied among individuals from minimal to complete and apparently was unrelated to the recovery of ambulation.
Case Series: Computed Tomography Features of Extraskeletal Osteosarcoma in Six Dogs.
Although the presence of intralesional mineralization is not a pathognomonic finding, it was consistently identified in the present case series. Therefore, exOSA should be considered in the differential diagnosis when mineralization occurs in a mass unrelated to osseous structures.
Elimination Diet Trials: Steps for Success and Common Mistakes
Increasing the duration of the EDT to 8 weeks increases the sensitivity to more than 90% for the diagnosis of food allergies in dogs and cats. The time to flare upon oral challenge with the offending diet can be 7 to 14 days.
