Introduction

Vaginal tumors are rarely seen in dogs, despite that vaginal and vulval tumours are the most common neoplasms of the tubular reproductive tract in the bitch.

Objectives

A 6-year-old mix breed neutered female dog was presented for 2 months history of hemorrhagic and ulcerated mass on vulva.

Methods

In vaginoscopic examination the mass was invaded to the vestibule. Biopsy specimen was taken, and canine histiocytoma was diagnosed by histopathologic examination. The dog was placed on the operation table in sternal recumbency with the rear legs over the end of the table. The operation table was slightly tilted to elevate perineal area. Following the incision around the vulva, and dissection was went on around corpus uteri. All the mass was with corpus uteri, vestibule and vagina were removed. Macroscopically tumor free small part of vagina mucosa with submucosal tissues which surrounds the urethral opening was preserved. After approximating the subcuticular tissues with simple continuous sutures free edge of remnant vaginal tissue sutured to the skin by the simple interrupted sutures. In this way urethroplasty was achieved without damaging external orifice of urethra.

Results

There was no any complication related to the surgery, and dog was continence until 3rd month postoperatively.

Conclusions

The applied surgical technique was thought as lifesaving, improving life quality. Perineal approach to remove the vaginal vestibule and also corpus uteri can be suggested to the practitioners.
