The efficacy of selamectin against naturally occurring infestations of Psoroptic and Sarcoptic mange in rabbits was evaluated in the present study.

A total of 10 New Zealand rabbits naturally infested with Psoroptic mange and 3 Angora rabbits naturally infested with Sarcoptic mange was included.

Topical administration of selamectin to the skin in a single spot, of a dose of 6 or 18 mg/kg for New Zealand rabbits and 10 mg/kg for Angora rabbits, was completely effective against naturally infestations of S. scabei and P. cuniculi in rabbits.

The administration of selamectin topically to the skin in a single spot was found to be safe, easy, practical and less time consuming for the treatment of naturally occurring infestations of Psoroptic and Sarcoptic mange especially considering large rabbit enterprises. Besides no stress factor or mortality was observed in contrast to the injectable products such as ivermectin and moxidectin.
