Identification of Genetic Risk in Shetland Sheepdogs with Gallbladder Mucocele Formation
December 4, 2023
The long term goal of this research is to determine which gene(s) are responsible for predisposition of Shetland sheepdogs to mucocele formation. This will enable a better understanding of pathogenesis of mucocele formation in this breed.
Dr. Gookin is looking for Shetland Sheepdogs with gallbladder mucocele. See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
Risk Factors for Nutritionally-mediated DCM in Healthy Dogs of 2 Size Groups: The Role of Diet Category, Taurine, Cardiac Biomarkers, and Metabolomics
February 19, 2024
We hope to identify differences in cardiac parameters related to diet and/or breed size, and to investigate underlying factors that may be related to those differences.
Drs Larsen and Stern are looking for dogs fed “grain free” diets.
Developmental
Genetic Mapping of Legg Calve Perthes Disease
August 4, 2015
Legg Calve Perthes Disease (avascular necrosis of the femoral head) affects dogs. A genetic basis is suspected.
Dr Todhunter
is looking for dogs with Legg Calve Perthes Disease
.
See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.

Granulomatous Disease

Search For A Dog With X-Linked Chronic Granulomatous Disease
Drs. Harry Malech and Sebastian Brenner
Examples of canine patients that may be of value to them are young Weimaraners with recurrent infection secondary to suspected neutrophil dysfunction, or young dogs from other breeds with a history of chronic recurring infections, particularly with organisms such as Aspergillus, Staphylococcus, Serratia or Burkholderia cepacia.
Prospective evaluation of a minimally invasive treatment option for extrahepatic biliary duct obstructions (EHBDO) in dogs and cats
January 14, 2015
This
FULLY FUNDED
study evaluates the treatment for extra hepatic biliary duct obstruction (EHBDO) in dogs and cats using endoscopy and retrograde stenting to improve the morbidity and mortality.
Dr Berent
is looking for dogs and cats with biliary obstructions. See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
Endocrine
Incidence, Prevalence, and Genetics of Canine Diabetes
May 15, 2017
The survey hopes to use this data to investigate the prevalence, incidence, and potentially mode of inheritance of diabetes mellitus in dogs at increased risk for the disease, as well as that of the general population and those at decreased risk.
Dr Cai is looking for dogs with and without diabetes mellitus.
See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
Musculoskeletal
Genetic Mapping of Legg Calve Perthes Disease
August 4, 2015
Legg Calve Perthes Disease (avascular necrosis of the femoral head) affects dogs. A genetic basis is suspected.
Dr Todhunter
is looking for dogs with Legg Calve Perthes Disease
.
See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
Hereditary Evaluation of Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease in Toy and Miniature Breeds
November 3, 2008
Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease (LCPD) is a developmental disorder affecting the hip joint of small-breed puppies. Our study aims to identify (1) the mode of inheritance of LCPD in several small breeds and (2) candidate genes that may either cause the disease or be involved in the disease process through whole-genome association mapping.
Dr Starr
is looking for dogs with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD): Identifying the Genes Responsible
December 31, 2013
This study aims to identify the molecular cause for hypertrophic osteodystrophy. HOD is a familial disorder with an unknown etiology.
Dr Safra
is looking for dogs with hypertrophic osteodystrophy. See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
The Use of a Minimally Invasive Integrated Endoscopic System to Perform Hemilaminectomies in Chondrodystrophic Dogs with Thoracolumbar Intervertebral Disc Extrusions
December 28, 2020
To evaluate the use of a minimally invasive approach to perform hemilaminectomies in certain dogs with intervertebral disc herniations. A secondary goal is to compare the MIS hemilaminectomy to the standard approach. Where available, the long-term outcome of patients will also be included.
Dr Bartner is looking for chondrodystrophic dogs (e.g. Dachshunds) with acute thoracolumbar disc disease requiring surgery. See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
Neurological
Epilepsy Research
October 1, 2002
Canine Epilepsy Research Consortium is studying the genetics of epilepsy in all purebred dogs
To ensure the success of the study Dr. Ned Patterson, DVM from the Canine Genetics Lab, Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences wants to obtain DNA samples and health information from more families (including siblings, parents, grandparents, offspring or distant relatives) in which one or more members has epilepsy.
Dogs or dogs with a family history of epilepsy are needed.
Hereditary evaluation of spina bifida and cleft palate in brachycephalic dogs
January 20, 2009
We hope to identify candidate genes associated with canine structural birth defects, specifically spina bifida and cleft lip/palate in the bulldog and other brachycephalic breeds. This would allow us to develop a genetic test that could identify affected dogs and carrier dogs.
Dr Starr
is looking for Bulldogs or brachycephalic dogs with spina bifida or labio-palatine closure defects. See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
Identification of Genetic Risk in Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs with Epilepsy
July 20, 2022
Objectives: 1. Conduct a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify genomic regions associated with epilepsy in collies and shetland sheepdogs 2. Generate whole genome resequencing data to identify putative causal variants in associated regions.
Dr Clark is looking for Collies and Shetland Sheep dogs with epilepsy. See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.

September 10, 2021
Humans as well as dogs with cutaneous epitheliotropic T cell lymphoma (CETL) often suffer from intense itchiness which can cause significant discomfort and can affect quality of life. Can this itchiness be controlled with Cytopoint?
Dr Souza is looking for dogs with epitheliotropic T-cell Lymphoma. See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.

Use of Canine Struvite Dissolution Diet in the Management of Infection Induced Struvite Stones in Dogs
August 30, 2017
We hope to provide another effective dietary option to struvite dissolution in dogs. By feeding the test diet (brand blinded to client) and antibiotics we expect that dissolution of canine struvite bladder stones will occur within a 12-week period.
Dr Westropp is looking for dogs with struvite uroliths.
See the trial page for specific information on eligibility.
