Major(P) Desireé R. Broach, DVM, MS, DACVB

Major Desireé R. Broach, the current Director of the Veterinary Medical Center Europe (VMCE), is a Navy Brat from Jacksonville, Florida. In 2004, she completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture at The University of Georgia. She went on to The University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated in 2008 and joined the US Army Veterinary Corps as a Health Professions Scholarship Program recipient.

MAJ Broach was assigned as a Veterinary Treatment Facility Officer-In-Charge (OIC) at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. She served as the Junior Officer Council President and was selected for the position of Instructor and Deputy Branch Chief of Food Protection Branch at Fort Sam Houston, Texas in 2010. From there, due to her interest in Military Working Dog behavior, MAJ Broach was fortunate to be selected for the first iteration of the Veterinary Behavior Residency at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas as her Long Term Health Education Training.

She completed a dual residency program and received a Master’s of Science in Biology. Following residency, she was assigned as Clinical Medicine Veterinarian for the 463rd Medical Detachment Veterinary Service Support (MDVSS) at Fort Benning, Georgia. During this assignment, she was selected to serve as the 14th Combat Support Hospital’s Operations Officer, and assisted the unit in preparation for relief response to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, as part of the unit’s Defense Support for Civil Authorities (DSCA) mission. MAJ Broach became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists in 2017, serving as the first Active Duty Veterinary Behaviorist. In 2018, MAJ Broach was assigned to Veterinary Medical Center Europe as the Director for Clinical Operations, subsequently taking the role of Director of VMCE in 2019 where she is currently assigned. As a Veterinary Behaviorist, MAJ Broach has had the opportunity to publish many informational brochures and webinars, technical guidance, and manuscripts for Veterinary Services.

MAJ Broach has two children (Alayna 10, Conner 8), a sweet dog (Gabe), and a loving and dedicated husband, (Chef) Eddie. Her hobbies include continually reading and learning about Animal Behavior, crocheting, learning American Sign Language, spending time with her family, and traveling.

Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), the Army Commendation medal (1 oak leaf cluster), the Public Health Service Unit Citation, the Army Superior Unit Award, and the Armed Forces Service Medal. She was selected for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in December 2020, and is currently waiting the official date of her new rank.
