Type III hemifacial microsomia in a kitten
The case described herein presented with craniofacial malformations resembling hemifacial microsomia (HFM), a congenital disorder described in humans. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of HFM in a domestic cat.

Clinical evaluation of urine Histoplasma capsulatum antigen measurement in cats with suspected disseminated histoplasmosis
In this retrospective study, results of a urine antigen assay were compared with standard diagnostic methods in cats with clinical signs suggestive of histoplasmosis. Antigenuria was detected in 17/18 cats with a histopathologic or cytopathologic diagnosis of histoplasmosis. This preliminary evaluation of the Histoplasma urine antigen test suggests it may be a useful aid in diagnosing this disease in cats.

A review of topical therapy for skin infections with bacteria and yeast
There is good evidence for the efficacy of chlorhexidine and, to a lesser degree, benzoyl peroxide in canine bacterial skin infections. There is limited evidence for the efficacy of silver sulfadiazine and medical honey against bacterial skin infections in the dog, and for the efficacy of hydrogen peroxide and stannous fluoride in the horse. Good evidence supports the use of a combination of chlorhexidine and miconazole in dogs with cutaneous Malassezia infections.

The history and pharmacology of fentanyl: relevance to a novel, long-acting transdermal fentanyl solution newly approved for use in dogs
The recent approval of long-acting transdermal fentanyl solution for dogs provides a new approach for sustained delivery of fentanyl for the control of postoperative pain in dogs. It has a rapid onset of action, prolonged duration, and mitigates the disadvantages of oral, parenteral, and patch-delivered opioids.

What Legal Recourse Do I Have When The Groomer Quits And Takes The Client List?
You need to send a letter (you, or your attorney) not just to the groomer, BUT TO THE NEW EMPLOYER. Both are subject to civil liability. The letter needs to state that the records are yours, that you consider it embezzlement by the employee and theft by the new employer (embezzlement is generally where the person had access to the material, but misappropriated it; versus theft, where they had no right to it in the first place).

Veterinarians With Disabilities: Practicing A Full Life
These stories are nice and refreshing. Kudos to all who give people with disabilities a chance to work hard and shine like everyone else.

Unilateral Otitis Media In An Older Cat; Causes Of Ototoxicity In Dogs And Cats
It's actually not that easy to find one good source on ototoxicity in dogs and cats. I found that out when I put together this newsletter, which I'll share with you in case it's helpful.

Acutely Down Horse With Vestibular Signs; Advice On Equine Euthanasia
I usually sedate with some xylazine and place a catheter (the larger the better). An extension set attached to the catheter seems to help, especially if they fall on the side with the catheter and you have to give more euthanasia solution when they're down.
