Complicated Corneal Ulcers: Microbial Keratitis
'Melting' and 'eye' are two words that shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Join James Schoster, DVM, DACVO, this Sunday evening at 9 p.m. ET to learn how to correct that grammar to 'healing cornea'.

*This session will feature audio. Take the readiness test before attending.

Use the Rounds link in the main navigation bar to join the discussions.

How to Establish a Blood Bank
Establishing a blood bank can ensure a sufficient supply of blood, plasma, and platelets for a clinic’s transfusion needs. Wondering where to begin?

VIN consultant Dr. Sally Lester (with videos by Dr. Joe Musielak) has created a Blood Banking Manual to help you answer this question. Thanks, Sally (and Joe)!

Find the Blood Banking Manual in the Books section of the VIN Library and in the Hematology & Emergency Medicine Specialty Centers.

Model Employment Agreement
The VIN Foundation produced this model contract template to help ease the sometimes complicated contract negotiations scenario. The model contract is an illustrated example of a fair and balanced veterinary contract, which you can alter as necessary.

To help get you started, VIN Attorney Raphael Moore, JD, LLM, presented a rounds that explains the model contract in simple terms. You can read the transrcript or listen to the session.

Those who have used it say it helped them work through the details without creating feelings of adversity between employer and employee.

You'll find a link to the VIN Foundation Library in the Practice Management and Misc. sections of the Main library.

A New Perspective
In light of recent events in our profession and along with the threads about suicide, I feel the need to share. I started a new thread simply because this post is not about suicide, but is about my way of dealing with the normal stresses in a day in the life of a vet. It is part of my story, one that I continue to write, and one that just keeps getting better! Thank you for reading on.

Tell a different story. How I changed my life both in and out of the profession. I chose to tell a different story about myself.

Efficacy of disinfectants containing accelerated hydrogen peroxide against conidial arthrospores and isolated infective spores of Microsporum canis and Trichophyton sp.
Accelerated hydrogen peroxide products are an option for environmental disinfection of surfaces exposed to M. canis and Trichophyton sp. after appropriate gross decontamination and mechanical cleaning with a detergent.

Growth and wear of incisor and cheek teeth in domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) fed diets of different abrasiveness
This study demonstrates that concepts of constant tooth growth in rabbits requiring consistent wear are inappropriate, and that diet form (whole vs. pelleted) does not necessarily affect cheek teeth. Irrespective of the strong effect of external abrasives, internal abrasives have the potential to induce wear and hence exert selective pressure in evolution.

Localized demodicosis due to Demodex cati on the muzzle of two cats treated with inhalant glucocorticoids
Minimization of contact between the inhalant glucocorticoid and the skin can be achieved by wiping residual powder from the face and by keeping the mask tightly pressed to the skin to avoid contact with the surrounding area.

Chemotherapy In A Cat That Is Very Difficult To Pill: Are Liquid Suspensions Or Crushed Tablets Mixed With Food Ever An Option?
Avoid liquid formulations of chemo, because that automatically means some increased exposure (when compared to tablets or capsules) to owners/caretakers.

Asymptomatic Doberman With Ventricular Ectopy On Screening Holter: Is Medication Indicated?
The data from this study would suggest that your patient has a reasonable chance of developing dilated cardiomyopathy over the next several years. The question of treatment, however, is more complicated.

Radiographic Evidence Of A Pulmonary Tumor In A Cat That Was Exposed To Elevated Levels Of Radon
I think your recommendation for the client to be evaluated by his physician is prudent.
