Your Dog Ate What?!?
Your patients have a real knack for getting into potential toxins. Accidental poisonings often occur from exposure to certain foods, insecticides, household products, and medications.

Resources from VIN and beyond are compiled in the Toxicology Specialty Center to help you deal with these unwelcome surprises.

In the center, you'll find:

  • Links to useful books and manuals
  • Medical FAQs
  • Associate chapters and rounds
  • Client handouts
  • Slide shows
  • Links to journal articles and proceedings

There are also whole sections dedicated to poisonous plants and pertinent FDA/EPA/FARAD websites.

Look for the Toxicology Specialty Center on the About Page for the Toxicology Message Board and in the Specialty Centers section of the VIN Library.

Build Your Own Deck of Flashcards
Whether you're still in school or have joined the ranks of "perpetual student," VIN Flashcards will help you brush up on your fundamentals.

Hundreds of flashcards are organized by medical topic or organ system. You can build and save your own custom decks of cards, then test yourself with the question or answer side of your cards. Want more information? Each card has a reference so you can get the full story.

***Special thanks go to VINner Rachel Blackmer (Tufts, 1991) for kick-starting this effort and contributing a huge number of her flashcards. Now it's your turn -- let us know if you have created cards you'd like to share or have ideas you'd like to see developed!

Treatment-related toxicities in tumor-bearing cats treated with temozolomide alone or in combination with doxorubicin: a pilot assessment

BDV-RNA was found in 11/19 cats (58%). In a reference population without neurological signs, 4/25 cats were seropositive (16%).

After topical anesthesia, use the butt end (not the sharp end) of a new #15 surgical blade to scrape off these white lesions and carefully make a smear on a microscope slide. Air dry (no heat), Diff-Quik stain, and look for eosinophils and eosinophilic granules. This will confirm the eosinophilic keratitis.
