Happy Thanksgiving!
The USA celebrates Thanksgiving this week. Many VINners will be in tryptophan-induced comas and responses to message boards posts may be slightly delayed.

VIN is colleagues helping colleagues.

  • If you have experience and knowledge that can help your fellow VINners with cases, practice management, and life, speak up! ;-)
  • We're all in this together, and we learn from each other. VIN isn't a "you pays your dues and you gets an instant answer" world. VIN is VINners -- members, VIN Reps, Associate Editors, and Consultants -- helping each other with their cases and their lives.
  • The VIN Consultant/Editors, with the help of the amazing VIN Representative team, make every effort to ensure that all posts have received a helpful response within 48 hours (usually much sooner). If it's been more than 48 hours, email feedback@vin.com

Thanks for being a part of the VIN community.

Learn about therapeutics, behavioral modification, common behavioral issues and helpful websites. You'll also find links to books on VIN, Associate chapters, related journals and proceedings, helpful websites, and client handouts.

Pot-bellied pig neoplasia: A retrospective case series (2004-2011)
Sixty-three pot-bellied pig cases (53 necropsies and 10 surgical biopsies) were identified from the UTCVM case database. Of these, 22 cases from 21 patients (34.9%) were given a diagnosis of neoplasia, including 10 females, 3 spayed females, 2 males, and 7 neutered males. The mean age of affected animals was 11.3 years.

Effect of lactation on functional and morphological echocardiographic variables in adult dairy cows
Nine multiparous high milk producing (HMP) dairy cows (producing more than 40 kg of milk per day in peak production) and 9 low milk producing (LMP) cows (producing less than 30 kg or milk per day in peak production). Echocardiography was performed twice; one month before calving and two months after calving.

Radical prostatectomy versus observation for localized prostate cancer
From November 1994 through January 2002, we randomly assigned 731 men with localized prostate cancer (mean age, 67 years; median PSA value, 7.8 ng per milliliter) to radical prostatectomy or observation and followed them through January 2010. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality; the secondary outcome was prostate-cancer mortality.

This kind of conversation is why VIN is so great. There are opinions and views from many different areas of the country and from people with many different experiences.

I'm Planning To Sell Practice And Retire In Several Years: When Should I Have The Practice Valuation Done?
You should get a valuation done now, so you are not surprised (good or bad) right before your retirement. If you get a valuation you are *not* happy with, it gives you time to get on the ball and improve it.

One thing to consider is that there are 9-10 different contagious diseases that cause dogs to cough, and the best vaccination policy will protect against 3-4 of those.
