Evaluation of a fast, objective tool for assessing body condition of budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus)
A tool has been developed that uses an algorithmic decision tree of yes-no answers based on physical examination to objectively guide the assessor to a body condition score. Based on this study, the guide would appear to be a repeatable measure of body condition in budgerigars, suitable for use during physical examinations.

Heat treatment of colostrum increases immunoglobulin G absorption efficiency in high-, medium-, and low-quality colostrum
Heat treatment of colostrum increased plasma IgG concentration by 18.4% and apparent efficiency of absorption by 21.0%. Results of this study suggest that heat treatment of colostrum containing approximately 50 to 100mg IgG/mL increases absorption of IgG from colostrum.

Itraconazole vs. trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole: A comparative cohort study of 200 patients with paracoccidioidomycosis
Itraconazole (86.4%) was significantly superior to TMP-SMX (51.3%) in terms of cure rate and had a median treatment period that was significantly shorter (12 months) than that for TMP-SMX (23 months).

Herniated Disks: Using The Degree Of Spinal Cord Compression To Choose Between Surgical Decompression And Non-Surgical Treatment
Neither clinical signs alone nor imaging findings alone can be used to determine the role of surgery or the prognosis. But, taken together, along with the history, some reasonable thumb-rules emerge.

Is Transdermal Fluoxetine Poorly Absorbed?
Why would compounding pharmacies create medications that have little to no efficacy, and why aren't we veterinarians doing something about the fraudulent situation of prescribing, compounding, and dispensing these products?

Respiratory Distress After Oral Bordetella Vaccine In A Dog With An Elongated Soft Palate
Obviously, this dog has ongoing upper respiratory problems but regardless, I would report this as an adverse event to Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) and also to the USDA adverse event reporting site.

Use Of Punishment For Prevention Of Play Aggression From A Young Cat
The timing of punishment must be exquisite, it must happen within seconds (<10) of the *initiation* of the behavioral sequence and it must happen every time the behavior is initiated. It must be at an intensity that is aversive enough to decrease the likelihood that the animal will choose to perform the behavior in the future but not so intense that it causes physical or psychological damage.

Times shown are Eastern Time (ET).
Convert ET to your time zone.
