Making Referrals a Win-Win Situation
Referrals don't have to be a battle between the veterinarians. Join Katherine Dobbs, RVT, CVPM, for Triangle Of Care: A Cooperative Approach To Patient Referrals and learn how to make sure everyone wins.

Invite your staff and join us this Sunday at 10 p.m EDT. Use the Rounds link in the Main Navigation bar to join the discussions. VSPN members attend via www.vspn.org.

*If you're a student or practicing veterinarian who is curious about the AAFP organization, don't miss AAFP Student Rounds with Michelle Meyer, DVM at 8 p.m. Sunday.

To find out what other interesting rounds topics are coming soon, see This Week's Rounds Schedule.

Linking the Veterinary Healthcare Team
October 11-17 is National Veterinary Technician Week. Technicians have a vital role in the veterinary healthcare team. Have you told your technicians how much you appreciate them? Maybe today should be the day!

As the national association representing veterinary technicians, NAVTA realizes that a true celebration of National Veterinary Technician Week relies on participation of state associations, student chapters, and our members.

The Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN) is a FREE online community for veterinary hospital staff. VIN provides VSPN for your staff as a benefit to you and your colleagues. VSPN offers your staff access to information and a community of their peers. If they're not already members, encourage your staff to sign up for their free VSPN membership at www.VSPN.org.

Osteoblastic bone formation is induced by using nanogel-crosslinking hydrogel as novel scaffold for bone growth factor
Cholesterol-bearing pullulan nanogel-crosslinking hydrogel serves as an efficient and versatile scaffold for the stimulation of osteoblasts to form bone and to repair defects via delivery of BMP.

The horse-human dyad: Can we align horse training and handling activities with the equid social ethogram?
This article examines the recently completed equid ethogram and shows how analogues of social interactions between horses may occur in various human-horse interactions.

Effects of the introduction of single heifers or pairs of heifers into dairy-cow herds on the temporal and spatial associations of heifers and cows
High synchronicity and small distances of the single heifers with cows coincided with more frequent agonistic interactions, whereas heifers in the pairs were more synchronous and at shorter distances with each other and may have provided some mutual social support.

Lease renegotiation
In my shopping center, a neighbor wanted to renegotiate and was refused. Another said they were going to go bankrupt, and they got a 10% reduction. A third said that they would go bankrupt and were trying to negotiate a lower rate at the end of their lease. The shopping center said take it or leave it...

Extract or not?
In the past, when I see teeth with a lot of gum/bone loss such that we can see a lot of the root/furcation, I typically think to extract those teeth...but perhaps I am extracting too soon.

Can a husband euthanize his wife's dog without her permission?
Oh my! I just got goosebumps. How scary if you had put the dog to sleep. I don't mean scary legally, because most people don't pursue that route, but just the poor owner's heartbreak. Good job.

Stifle surgery in dogs: Use of intra-articular analgesia
Quite often you'll be able to reduce the post-op CRI in patients with successful intra-articular anesthesia/analgesia. This is a benefit when faced with a breed/individual in which you wish to minimize the systemic effect of opioids.
