As a Matter of FAQ...
The fastest route to an answer to your question is a VIN Database Search. But, because some topics have been discussed many times on the message boards, the number of "hits" can be overwhelming. To help you, the VIN consultants (and other experts) continue to create up-to-date summaries (FAQs) of topics commonly discussed on the message boards. Save time and check out the Medical FAQs before you post. Find them in the VIN Library or through the VINDEX (Ctrl+E). New and Updated:
Your Dog Ate What?!? NEW Toxicology Specialty Center
Your patients have a real knack for getting into potential toxins. Accidental poisonings often occur from exposure to certain foods, insecticides, household products, and medications. Resources from VIN and beyond are compiled in the Toxicology Specialty Center to help you deal with these unwelcome surprises. In the center, you'll find: - Links to useful books and manuals
- Medical FAQs
- Associate chapters and rounds.
- Client handouts
- Slide shows
- Links to journal articles and proceedings.
There are also whole sections dedicated to poisonous plants and pertinent FDA/EPA/FARAD websites. Look for the Toxicology Specialty Center on the About Page for the Toxicology Message Board and in the Specialty Centers section of the VIN Library.

Upload Images to the VIN Message Boards from your Mobile Device!
If you have an Android powered device or any Apple device running iOS6, now you can upload images to the VIN message boards directly from your mobile device. The VIN Geeks and Wizards have tested on the following devices with encouraging success: - iPad 2/3
- iPhone 3, 4(s) and 5
- Nexus 7
- Thrive
- Sony S
- Nook
- BlackBerry PlayBook
You can also take a photo and have it posted directly to the message boards from your device within seconds! Keep in mind that images taken with a mobile device are sometimes lacking in picture quality. Take care when using images posted from your mobile device in posts where you are requesting medical opinions on the message boards. Remember, whether you're using your mobile device or your desktop, you can only attach one (1) image per post so you'll still need to create a separate reply for each image you want to post. As you know, new features often have bugs to work out, but early testing looks encouraging! Read more about how to post images to Message Boards or watch this video. If you want to be on the "bleeding edge" make Beta.vin.com your VIN Homepage.

Evaluation of a modification of the McKinnon technique to correct urine pooling in mares
Modifying the McKinnon technique by transversely splitting the urethral fold and retracting the dorsal half helps prevent a defect from forming in the cranial portion of the extension. The dorsal shelf can be retracted further caudally by creating a relief incision on the floor of the vagina.
Current British veterinary attitudes to the use of perioperative antimicrobials in small animal surgery
The percentage of respondents who always used antimicrobials in two surgical procedures classified according to NRC criteria as 'clean' was 25.3 per cent for removal of a 1 cm cutaneous mass and 32.1 per cent for routine prescrotal castration.
Acute phase protein levels in dogs with mast cell tumours and sarcomas
The acute phase proteins (APP) form part of a non-specific host response to inflammation. They may be induced by a range of different causes, including infection, inflammation, cancer and trauma. As they form part of the earliest response to such insults, they have potential for early identification of disease.

Radiograph Interpretation And Treatment For Dog With Pneumomediastinum And Possible Megaesophagus
There is a pneumomediastinum. That can occur with any penetrating or erosive disease of the pharynx, esophagus, bronchi, or alveoli, including perforating trauma, iatrogenic endotracheal tube pressure necrosis, barotrauma from blunt force impact, or even forceful coughing or vomiting.
Cryptococcosis Found In Young Cat That Has Swelling And Ulceration Of The Nose And Commissure Of The Eye
The histopathology results came back as cryptococcus! Here are some pictures of the sample, with those beautiful halos around the cells.
Minimizing Hazards For Pregnant Veterinarians Working With Exotic Animals
I appreciate that exotic practice is different since it is not possible to intubate the tracheas of many of the animals, but it is vital that the working environment is safe for everyone. If you're having to make big changes to anesthetic protocols when someone announces they are pregnant, then things need to be reviewed for everyone.
