Shelter Medicine Center
It takes a special breed of veterinarian to devote their career to caring for animals in shelters and other protective services. Whether you’re a shelter vet or you're simply asked to examine rescues or shelter animals on occasion, the new Shelter Medicine Center has resources that will come to your rescue.

Find information on animal care and husbandry, recognition and treatment of diseases and management/personnel issues. Legal and regulatory issues, spay/neuter programs, nonprofit organizations and many other topics are also addressed.

The Shelter Medicine Center can be reached through the Specialty Centers section of the VIN Library and the About Page of the Shelter Medicine message board.

MyStuff version 1.6.4!
Are you a MyStuff geek? Well, great news! Version 1.6.4 has been released to BETA.vin.com - and it will rapidly advance (watch the version numbers change) in the weeks to come.

Ok, you can stop clapping.....

The VIN Wizards want you to play with the new MyStuff, and let them know what you think. This version specifically addresses the desire to select multiple bookmarks and folders and move them by dragging and dropping.

So you ask, “How do I do that”? To select more than one bookmark or folder, hold down the Ctrl (selecting items not in a series) or the Shift (selecting in a series) keys while clicking with your mouse the appropriate bookmarks and folders.

This version also improves the reordering behavior of the folder list. Woo Hoo!

The VIN Wizards are rapidly responding to VINner requests. Gold Stars to those of you who requested features and reported bugs; and hey, don’t be left out of the Gold Star contest, let us know what you think and tell us if you can find anything we need to fix.

As always, please post your feedback if you have questions or suggestions or if you find things not working as expected.

Genetic variables of various manifestations of osteochondrosis and their correlations between and within joints in Dutch warmblood horses
Our results suggest that selection against osteochondrosis (OC) could best be performed by taking into account the OC status of all 4 joints (the femoropatellar, the tarsocrural, the metacarpophalangeal, and the metatarsophalangeal), and discerning between flattened bone contours and fragments.

Prevalence of Michigan dairy herds infected with Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis as determined by environmental sampling
The environmental sampling protocol used in this study is an economically attractive alternative for monitoring herd level prevalence and the progress of Johne's disease control programs at the state or national level. Implementation of such a program would aid states in monitoring Johne's control program progress, and guide changes over time.

Understanding iliopsoas injuries
Radiographs show mild degenerative changes around the stifle but the hips are fine. (I don't have the rads with me right now so can't post them). On examination, the stifle seems to be pain free, very stable with no discernable drawer. I can elicit pain in the medial femur area - and the various descriptions of how to check for psoas injury seem to point that way.

What is the NAAVOS?
Credentialing by the NAAVOS is not equivalent to Board Certification by a Veterinary Specialty College, but it does provide a goal for those veterinarians with a passion for orthopedic surgery and a desire to have their skills and acomplishments recognized.

California tax officials are using breed websites to track down breeders
According to California tax law, anyone who sells more than two animals a year must have a seller’s permit and pay the state a sales tax. Fifty letters have been sent out so far.

Search Tip:
Increase the likelihood of your search returning the results you want by using PHRASES rather than SINGLE WORDS when you search:
- Enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM, if that's what you really want to search.
- General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful.
For more help and tips on searching, see Steps To A More Effective Search.

Top 3 terms/words your fellow VINners are searching on this month: tramadol, cerenia and gabapentin.
