Hypernatremia in Critically Ill Cats. Evaluation and Treatment
Administering isotonic sodium-containing fluids for extracellular volume replacement should not result in hypernatremia if normal sodium regulatory mechanisms are functioning.
Clinical Pharmacology of Clemastine in Healthy Dogs
Because of the low bioavailability of the drug, clemastine can only be recommended for oral control of hypersensitivity conditions in dogs if administered in very high doses (1 mg kg-1 twice daily, or more) and thus the usefulness of the drug in dogs might be limited.
Successful Treatment of Salmonella Meningitis and Osteomyelitis in a Young Maltese Dog
Anibiotics with good penetration across the blood brain barrier and those which are bactericidal are preferred. Ampicillin may be superior to chloramphenicol and has the advantage of being bactricidal.
Efficacy of an Acetic Acid/Boric Acid Ear Cleaning Solution for Treatment and Prophylaxis of Malassezia sp. Otitis Externa
The 2% acetic acid and 2% boric acid ear wash makes no claims on middle ear safety. The literature is conflicting this point. Ototoxicity studies in chinchillas and guinea pigs has found 2% acetic acid to be ototoxic... Similar studies with boric acid in animals is lacking.

When the bedding was stored at 4 C, ...
Phenylpropanolamine is a List 1 NOT a Class 1 Drug; Recordkeeping Questions
Schedule I drugs are substances that have a high abuse potential and no accepted medical use in the United States. Heroin is an example... List I substances are precursors to manufacture of methamphetamine. PPA has been a list I drug for several years and *distributors* of the drug have to keep records as if they were controlled substances.
Human Medical Costs
I am doing a poster/handout kind of thing comparing human medical costs to veterinary. I was thinking that some folks might have some hospital bills or medical bills they don't mind sharing. What's a human exam fee? Minor problem fix?
Pituitary Dwarf
...pituitary dwarves don't usually have profound PU/PD as a clinical sign...and dogs with Cushing's at a very early age can have the stunted growth, delayed growth plate closure, poor coat. In addition, IGF-1 levels can be wrong sometimes if the sample deteriorated in the tube. Eventual demise in a pituitary dwarf is expected to be because of infections, degenerative diseases, or neurologic dysfunction as pituitary cysts continue to enlarge.
