CTVT PROJECT - Worldwide Distribution Questionnaire

Outcome of surgical treatment for umbilical swellings in bovine youngstock
Eighty-seven cases underwent surgery of which 86 survived until discharge. Postoperative complications occurred in 65/86 animals (73%). In 51 cases (81%), this was classified as minor requiring no additional treatment.

Epidemiological study (2006-2012) on the poisoning of small animals by human and veterinary drugs
Exposure to drugs for human use accounted for 79% of cases involving dogs, whereas veterinary drugs were the main culprit (77%) in the case of cats. The most common class of drugs for human use proved to be CNS drugs (26.8%, followed by NSAIDs (19.6%), and cardiovascular and endocrine drugs (12.9% each).

The influence of suture pattern on the incidence of incisional drainage following exploratory laparotomy
The incidence of purulent or persistent serosanguinous incisional drainage in 142 horses with complete follow-up information was 21.8%. Background, lesion type, and enterotomy or enterectomy were not associated with a significantly increased likelihood of incisional drainage. However, closure of the subcutaneous tissues and skin in a 2-layer, modified subcuticular pattern was associated with a significantly lower incidence of post operative incisional drainage.

Sources For Non-Traumatic Electrocardiogram (ECG) Clips And Suggestions For Modifying The Alligator Clips
The force applied to the skin depends on the actual force provided by the spring in the clip and the surface area. By putting a penny on there, the surface area is increased and so the amount of "pinch" is reduced. So that part sounds like a good idea to me.

Obstruction Can Be Seen With Double Contrast Cystogram
In the face of chronic inflammation, the mucosa (submucosa) can become less elastic and/or fibrosed. If we then infuse fluid or air into the bladder and exceed the capacity of the mucosa to stretch, it will tear, yet the muscular layer can remain intact and compliant.

Can Veterinarians Deny Emergency Service To Pets Of Fired Clients?
If I've determined that I cannot have a valid Veterinarian/Client/Patient Relationship, then it means I can't and won't be "obligated" to have this person as a client again.

Diagnostic Approach To Isosthenuria In An Apparently Normal Dog
These are good questions. I really like it when people have a plan for how they will approach abnormalities found on routine screening tests even *before* they have the results of the tests.

Most Common Myths We Cling To?
I'm interested in what people think are the most common myths, misconceptions, habits, or outdated traditions you think vets cling to despite good evidence against them. I have had to give up a number of specific interventions and beliefs over the years as our knowledge has changed.

      Did I really hear that?
I performed a dental procedure on a dog today. The owner is a grandma-aged lady. I had prescribed clindamycin one week earlier to be given prior to the dental procedure. After the dental work was finished, I went out to the waiting room and discussed the results with her. I told her I wanted her to continue antibiotics for 1 more week. She said, "I still have the chlamydia you gave me last week".

What does one say to that?
