Lack of correlation between canine heart rate and body size in veterinary clinical practice
The heart rate in healthy dogs undergoing routine clinical examination is related to their demeanour or age (if younger than 12 months), but does not appear to be related to body weight.
Role of the electrokinetic properties on the stability of mebendazole suspensions for veterinary applications
Mebendazole aqueous suspensions display a controllable "delayed" or "hindered" sedimentation and a very easy redispersion that may contribute to the formulation of veterinary liquid dosage forms.
Rift Valley fever virus: An unrecognized emerging threat
The lack of prophylactic and therapeutic measures, the potential for human-to-human transmission, and the significant threat to livestock associated with Rift Valley fever virus make infection with these pathogens a serious public health concern.

Horse client wants an injectable dewormer
I have had a rather valuable horse die post colic and on PM it had fistulous tracts from its stomach to several other areas/abscesses. These areas were FILLED with bot larvae. I presumed this was the cause of the tracts. The insurance company asked the owner as per deworming protocol. Cattle products had been routinely used off label and the insurance company refused to pay out. Good for them.
How do you respond to clients who want prescriptions for Internet pharmacies?
If the client asks for a written 'script, we must provide one, and it doesn't matter where they choose to get it filled. We don't have huge Internet pharmacy issues here, but I still think that's a fair and equitable policy that puts the onus on the client to choose where they want to get their drugs, and takes us out of the business of policing pharmacies.
Client with indoor cat refuses rabies vaccine: Can I fire her for noncompliance?
If the only reason is the cat is indoor only, I've had two incidents where bats flew into people's houses and the cats had interactions with the bats. One bat did turn out to be rabies positive. This is what I tell all my reluctant folks.
Local analgesia for cats with chest tubes; local anesthetics for post-thoracotomy pain in humans; antimicrobial effect of local anesthetics
Local anesthetics not only serve as agents for pain control, but possess antimicrobial activity as well. In such a capacity, local anesthetics can be considered as an adjunct to traditional antimicrobial use in the clinical or laboratory setting.

A rose by any other name "Well, I thought I was doing a great job as this kitty cat's vet: did a good work up on her ocular disease, worked closely with the owner, kept the cost within her range, including allowing her to pay off her bill in two payments. Ended up enulceating the eye. Cat recovered beautifully, went home happy, owner happy. Owner returned a couple of weeks later with the cat for suture removal. The cat never looked back (so to speak), healing well, etc. Owner is thrilled. As she's leaving the office, the owner, full of gratitude, turns to me and says with a big smile: "Thanks, Cheryl!" Sigh.... Glenys."
