Necropsies With No Gross Lesions
Does it seem like clients only let you do necropsies on cases that result in no gross lesions and not the ones that have obvious pathology that make you look like a hero?

Join Eric Snook, DVM, PhD, DACVP, this Sunday evening at 9 p.m. ET to discuss how "nothing" really can tell you something, and how to communicate that to your client.

*This session will feature audio. Take the readiness test before attending.

Use the Rounds link in the main navigation bar to join the discussion.

VIN Helps New Grads Prepare for New Challenges
VIN understands the unique pressures you face as a new graduate. Use these resources from the Student Center and elsewhere on VIN to find answers to some of the questions that might be keeping you up at night:

The "moment of truth" and a big fear of most new grads is when they face their first emergencies -- day or night. Be prepared and confident. Bookmark and review the archives of the VIN Foundation supported CE class for new grads -- Getting Through the Night. New or not so new grad, you'll find these materials entertaining and helpful.

You'll also enjoy and benefit from archives of the sister class -- Getting Through the Day. And it's not too late to sign up for the upcoming sessions which open 11/17/2014 -- FREE for new grads and those graduating in 2014. Keep an eye on the Course Catalog to enroll.

Although it's not just part of the Student Center, the VIN Virtual Clinic can help you hone your clinical skills in a risk-free environment and experience some of those difficult cases before you face them in real life. The Virtual Clinic also records your performance on each patient, so you can track your progress.

There's More Than One Way to Skin a Cat...
...and more than one way to log out of your VIN session!

  • Using the Logout button (on WWW and Beta.vin.com).
  • Open the VINdex (CTRL-E from anywhere on VIN) and choose Log Out (the top option).
  • Closing all browser windows.
  • Or, for Mac users, hitting Apple+Q to quit the application.

Logging out will keep you and your colleagues from accidentally impersonating each other.

Hypervitaminosis A-induced hepatic fibrosis in a cat
As in human hepatology, if there is dietary evidence to support increased intake of vitamin A, then hypervitaminosis A should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chronic liver disease in cats.

Attitudes of Swiss veterinarians towards pain and analgesia in dogs and cats
Most veterinarians reported to routinely administer analgesics before (71 - 96%) or after (2 - 23%) surgery. The most used analgesics were non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (carprofen, meloxicam) and opioids (butorphanol, buprenorphine).

Using viral neutralization tests, we registered 5.8% and 47% seropositivity for PorPV and EMCV, respectively. For Leptospira spp., we registered a seropositivity of 38.8%.

Dinotefuran Concentrations In Different Sizes Of Vectra3D
The new labels don't mean the product is any more dangerous for cats than it was before. It's just the company complying with new EPA labeling requirements.

Dog With Intermittent Exercise-Induced Subcutaneous Swelling Caused By Mast Cell Tumor
The owner ran her up and down the block to get the lump to appear and it did. We were able to get an aspirate and saw many granular cells and lots of granules in the background. It's looking like a mast cell tumor.
