What are VIN Rounds?
VIN Rounds are drop-in, interactive learning opportunities covering a range of clinical medicine and practice management topics. Experts present subject matter and lead the conversation while attendees ask questions and share their own experiences.

Most Rounds take place on Sunday evenings, but there are also Rounds with more specific focus:

  • AAFP and VECCS Rounds focus on feline and emergency medicine topics, respectively.
  • The VIN Journal Club leads you through analyzing a journal article.
  • How-To Rounds help you get the most out of VIN tools and features.
  • Last but not least, if you need to bounce ideas off your colleagues or let off some pressure, the Tuesday evening Venting Over a Venti sessions may be just what the doctor ordered.

Interested in contributing your veterinary expertise to a world-wide veterinary audience while gaining valuable teaching experience? Contact Rounds@vin.com.

Solving Pathological Mysteries
Veterinary pathologists are an important part of every clinician's resource team. Don't happen to have one on staff? Can't reach your favorite pathologist 24/7? Let the Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Specialty Center help you sort out the clues to your diagnostic mystery.

You'll find information on diagnostic tests, quality control, laboratory standards, sample acquisition, cytologic stains, specimen submission and more.

Links to pertinent journals (including many full-text articles), helpful websites and dozens of slide shows, images and videos are also included.

Find the Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Center through the About Page for the Pathology Message Board and the Specialty Centers section of the VIN Library.

Results of the present study indicated that ureteral stenting is an effective treatment for benign ureteral obstructions in cats regardless of obstructive location, cause, or stone number. The perioperative morbidity and mortality rates were lower than those reported with traditional ureteral surgery.

Use of statewide emergency department surveillance data to assess incidence of animal bite injuries among humans in North Carolina
By the age of 10, a child in North Carolina had a 1 in 50 risk of dog bite injury requiring an emergency department visit. Incidence rates for dog bites were highest for children = 14 years of age, whereas the incidence rate for cat bites and scratches was highest among individuals > 79 years of age.

Should Dogs Be Shaved In Hot Weather To Prevent Hyperthermia?
There are a lot of anecdotal reports from owners who claim their dog is much more comfortable in hot weather with a shaved hair coat, but I've never heard one complain that their dog seemed too hot after shaving.

Insulin Options That Are Less Expensive Than Glargine (Lantus) For A Diabetic Cat
I'd sit down with the client in person, or have a longer phone chat, and present all the options. Unfortunately, there are no best solutions here, only ones that make sense and are affordable to this client.

I suspect this is bilateral tibial amelia.

    Scrubs in public? Really?
So, yeah, it's a thing, but it's an anal-retentive, finger-wagging, nosy neighbor, policy wonk, employee manual, robotic asshat kind of thing. Which it sounds like this woman was.

I would have just quietly stripped them off in front of her and walked out nude.

    Except for my bedazzled thong.
