No Sunday Rounds This Weekend
Because a certain VIN Rounds coordinator mistakenly thought Labor Day was this weekend in the US...

Use MyVIN to Build Your MyColleagues List
The Colleagues tool in MyVIN allows you to communicate with your fellow VIN members outside of discussions on the VIN Message Boards.

Use the Search option to find other VIN members by name and location. You can then invite them to be added to your MyColleagues list.

You can also use MyVIN to email a fellow VINner even if they haven't shared their email address on their VIN profile.

This help document will show you how to use MyColleagues to build a list of VIN contacts.

VIN Resources to Help you Educate Your Clients
Better informed pet owners make better clients. VIN has resources you can use to educate your clients on a wide variety of topics, from behavior issues to first aid and emergency care to vaccination protocols.

Contribute your own handouts and articles to share with others. Send your document (or send a link to it) to feedback@vin.com. (That's what VIN is all about - for veterinarians, by veterinarians!)

Stuck in the Middle

Our policy is now that the presenting agent, whether individual owner or association/municipality, is responsible to pay the bill, and our role is to provide an accurate estimate up front and communicate as the costs for treatment change. So for your situation, I'd communicate to the local HS that if they present it, it'll be billed to them. If they would like to offer generous payment options by which the client repays them, that's their prerogative.

Use of the Thomas splint and cast combination, walker splint, and spica bandage with an over the shoulder splint for the treatment of fractures of the upper limbs in cattle
Spica bandages combined with lateral splints placed over the dorsum of the affected limb and down the contralateral shoulder may be used for partial immobilization of humeral fractures in calves and small ruminants when surgical repair is not an option.

Outbreak of Salmonella enterica serotype Infantis infection in humans linked to dry dog food in the United States and Canada, 2012

Young Rabbit With Severe Dental Disease; Feeding Advice To Optimize Dental Health In Rabbits
Over the past 30 years, I've collected about 1000 skull specimens of rabbits with and without pathology. Pellets, root vegetables, and even timothy hay can all contribute to dental disease. My feeding recommendation is...

Client's Spouse Angry About Bill: What To Do Now, And Ways To Prevent It In Future
I would not call it an estimate -- that does sound like an auto body shop. Label it and call it a treatment plan or a health plan. That way you are concentrating on what needs to be done for the health of the pet, not what it is going to cost them.

Allergen Immunotherapy: Is Sublingual Or Injectable Preferred For Dogs?
Right now, 75% of my clients are choosing sublingual. I am beginning to believe that it works faster than injections. There is a good immunologic reason for this: daily administration of an antigen is superior at inducing tolerance than intermittent administration is.
