Adverse event surveillance in small animal anaesthesia: an intervention-based, voluntary reporting audit

Forms were completed for 1114 anaesthetics (a compliance of 80.4%), with 1001 AEs reported in 572 patients. The relative frequency of AEs reported were as follows: arousal or breakthrough pain (14.9%), hypoventilation (13.5%), hypotension (10.3%), arrhythmias (5.8%), hyperthermia/hypothermia (5.0%), airway complications (4.8%), recovery excitation (4.6%), aspiration risk (4.5%), desaturation (2.8%), hypertension (1.7%), and 'other' (3.7%).

Atlantooccipital Overlap and Other Craniocervical Junction Abnormalities in Dogs
The term craniocervical junction abnormality (CJA) is an umbrella term for a variety of malformations that occur in the craniocervical region. These abnormalities include Chiari-like malformation, atlantooccipital overlapping, atlantoaxial instability, occipitoatlantoaxial malformations, atlantoaxial dural bands, and dens abnormalities.

Clearance of corticosteroids following intra-articular administration of clinical doses to racehorses
Serum concentrations fell below the ARCI threshold guidance by Day 7 (100 pg/ml) for both triamcinolone acetonide (2–40 mg dose) and isoflupredone acetate (4–30 mg dose) and Day 21 (100 pg/ml) for methylprednisolone acetate (20–600 mg dose). Betamethasone fell below the regulatory threshold (10 pg/ml) by 7 days for all Quarter Horses and for 7/10 Thoroughbreds studied. Drug concentrations were below the regulatory threshold by Day 10 in the remaining 3 horses receiving betamethasone.

One thing I do when I perceive there might be an issue is to ask staffers who witnessed any of the interaction to write down their version of what they saw and heard. Have them sign it, and you should keep a copy.

Organized by species, each Real Time Session will highlight the "Top 20" diseases and conditions encountered by practitioners in the U.S. and Canada. The questions will lead to a brief discussion and summary of each condition in a distilled format. We will cover NAVLE®; study plans and exam strategies and provide strategies for reviewing topics not covered in the "Top 20s." The last session will include a mock examination.
