Let it Bleed - Explore the VIN Hemorrhage Simulator
The VIN multi-media geeks and VIN consultants are developing clinical physiology learning tools as part of what they are calling the VIRTUAL DOG project. They'll be done when it barks, poops, and pees (don't hold your breath).

The VIN Hemorrhage Simulator allows you to learn more about clinical physiology and therapy without getting blood on your scrubs.

Find the hemorrhage simulator in the Interactive Learning Center of the VIN Library.

Cutaneous toxoplasmosis in two dogs
Cutaneous toxoplasmosis has been previously reported in human beings, rarely reported in cats, and reported in 1 dog with systemic toxoplasmosis. The present report describes 2 cases of cutaneous toxoplasmosis in 2 dogs treated with immunosuppressive therapy.

Bilateral ovarian adenocarcinoma in a mare causing haemoperitoneum and colic
On examination the heart rate was 100 beats per minute, and mucous membranes were pale and tacky. A large mass was detected on transrectal palpation in the caudal abdomen to the left of midline. Explorative laparotomy revealed severe haemoperitoneum and several masses that were associated with the reproductive tract.

Radiographic findings of the medial humeral epicondyle in 200 canine elbow joints
Inclusion criteria for this study were a complete clinical examination, a complete set of digital radiographs and a final diagnosis made by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging and arthroscopy. Changes of the medial humeral epicondyle were recorded and correlated with the radiographic osteoarthritis and final diagnosis.

Can chronic periodontal disease lead to heart murmurs in dogs?
For more years than I would like to count, I have recommended dental prophylaxis. One of the reasons I cite is the impact chronic dental infection/periodontal disease can have on the heart. I have told clients that the oral infection can cause endocardiosis and lead to the development of a murmur. My newest associate claims that is not true. Have I been wrong all these years?

How can Cuattro radiographic images stored on the Cloud be posted into VIN message boards discussions?
I have no trouble posting images onto VIN from my Idexx CR, but how go I post images from my Cuattro DR system?

Options for repair of a fractured mandible in a small dog, if nearby teeth have been extracted
Waiting to stabilize this just gives time for bone loss and development of scar tissue around the bone ends, and you will never get bone healing. To have any hope of getting this fracture to heal, it needs to be stabilized now, before there is more bone loss and growth of soft tissue between the fracture segments.

Hyperthermia as a normal occurrence in working dogs
Today I observed training with military working dogs (MWDs) doing "table work" for bite training. After about 15 minutes of this work in a 67-68 degree F air-conditioned room, one dog's temperature was over 108 degrees F. The dog was perfectly fine.

Arachnaphobia
I recently opened a news website to see a picture taken of a spider's multiple eyes... through an otoscope. Yes, it was living in a woman's ear. I may have to have my ears surgically removed now just to make them stop itching and try to get that picture out of my head.
