Cushing's Confusion?
The VIN Trilostane (Vetoryl) Dosing and Monitoring tool can help guide you through the ins-and-outs of treating the Cushingoid dog. With options for once or twice daily dosing, the simple, click-through algorithm help you test your knowledge as well as sort out your patient's dosing, clinical signs, and bloodwork.

If you're visually inclined, you can work through your case step by step by choosing a patient size and following the quiz/flow chart through your case. Want to cut to the chase? Click on the appropriate algorithm for once or twice daily dosing.

Whether you have a case that you can't quite wrap your head around, or you just want to test your knowledge, give the Trilostane tool a try. And as always, let us know what you think!

Somatotroph pituitary tumors in budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus)
A series of 11 pituitary tumors in budgerigars were classified on the basis of their clinical, gross, microscopic, and immunohistochemical characteristics. Affected birds were young to middle-aged. Clinically, neurologic signs--including difficulties flying, ataxia, and blindness--were most commonly reported.

Anticipating the species jump: surveillance for emerging viral threats
Zoonotic disease surveillance is typically triggered after animal pathogens have already infected humans. Are there ways to identify high-risk viruses before they emerge in humans? If so, then how and where can identifications be made and by what methods? These were the fundamental questions driving a workshop to examine the future of predictive surveillance for viruses that might jump from animals to infect humans.

Myocardial toxicity in a group of greyhounds administered ractopamine
Ractopamine, a synthetic beta(2)-adrenoceptor agonist, is widely used as a feed additive in the United States to promote a reduction in body fat and enhance muscle growth in cattle, pigs, and turkeys. It has the potential for illegal use in show and racing animals because it may affect performance via its beta-adrenergic agonist properties or anabolic activities.

Sound Eklin DR system equipment specifications and opinions on image quality
One thing that I have noticed is that veterinarians that look at digital images are very impressed with the long scale contrast and the crisp margination. The problem is that the finer resolution (the things I need to make an impression) is not there. Small airway disease or fine trabecular detail is missing. I need this information.

How long can reconstituted vaccines be left at room temperature? Tips on administering Merial's subcutaneous feline leukemia (FeLV) vaccine
Fair warning, some veterinarians have found that the new SQ FeLV vaccine stings on administration. It may help to warm the vaccine to room temp. If you don't keep the diluent in the fridge (you don't have to keep this cold) that will help the vaccine warm up faster.

New graduate technician seemed fine as extern, but now can't actually do technician duties
My indecision to fire her as soon as I realized she was terrible led to countless headaches and poor patient care. I should have listened to you guys from the start.
