Title vs Descriptive Title on Message Boards Discussions
Message board discussions have two lives: the first when they are active interactive discussions between colleagues on the message boards, the second when they come up as a search result helping you and other VINners who can benefit from the prior discussion -- for years to come.

Before becoming searchable in the Search Database, the tireless VIN indexing team scours each posting to ensure the search results you get make sense and to help you zero in on the content you want.

When appropriate, the team creates a Descriptive Title that more clearly illustrates the key point of the post. Both the poster's Original Title and the Descriptive Title are shown in the discussion details. Words found in either title are treated as highly relevant search terms when using the VIN Search to retrieve the post.

See this example and this further explanation.

Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Wage Survey 2012
In conjunction with the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS), VIN conducted this survey between early February 2012 and the end of March 2012.

Results garnered from the 423 usable responses are now available to view on VIN.

If you participated in any other surveys and haven't yet seen those results, stop by the VIN Survey Results Archives.

Convert Proceedings Documents to PDF for Offline Viewing!
Mobile devices make it easy to stay connected to your home or business no matter where you are, but some situations force you to cut that tie to the world wide web. Never fear! Now you can convert conference proceedings articles to PDFs that you can view on your mobile device even when you don't have an internet connection.

The VIN Wizards have tested this feature on iPad, iPhone, Android, and Kindle Fire. If you aren't able to use this feature on your mobile device, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Note: To view PDFs on your mobile device, you'll need a PDF viewer. iBooks (for iPhone/iPad) and Adobe Reader (for iPhone/iPad, Android, or Kindle Fire) are free. There are also some great and inexpensive apps that let you do more manipulation/highlighting/note-taking.

Sustainable equine parasite control: perspectives and research needs
Clinically important equine parasites are ubiquitous in managed horse populations. The traditional approach to parasite control is frequent administration of anthelmintics to all horses on a farm. However, increasing levels of anthelmintic resistance is forcing horse owners and veterinarians to shift this control paradigm. Treatment regimens involving routine deworming of all horses throughout the year are now being replaced by more sustainable approaches, which take in to account the importance of maintaining adequate parasite refugia.

Detection of bacterial DNA in bile of cats with lymphocytic cholangitis
In this study, we have successfully used molecular methods based on the amplification of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene on feline bile samples to show that bile of cats with LC is not sterile.

Transdiaphragmatic extension of a retroperitoneal lipoma into the intrathoracic extrapleural space via the lumbocostal trigone in a dog
The defect of the lumbocostal trigone is also called the foramen of Bochdalek in humans, and it is recognized as a common location for congenital diaphragmatic hernia. A lumbocostal trigone hernia may be considered as a differential diagnosis for bicavitary masses in dogs, particularly in the absence of a history of trauma.

Clients have steadily-growing boarding bill: what options do we have?
When they come in to visit, tell them that their dog hasn't been outside to walk yet ...

Successful anesthetic procedure in a geriatric cat with severe bradyarrhythmia including complete atrioventricular block; isoproterenol vs. Dobutamine or dopamine for severe bradycardia during anesthesia
I understand your concern. I was thinking in my head "isn't propofol pro-arrhythmic?" as I was giving it, but without midazolam or valium, I feel like my induction options are more limited these days.

Cat with severe infection and tissue necrosis after being bitten on the ventral abdomen
Thanks again for your help. We will probably just continue bandaging, rather than attempt a surgical plastic repair. Because the granulation bed looks so healthy and the patient is healing so well, we hesitate to interfere with the natural process of healing which I personally find absolutely amazing.

Bat castration advice needed
I find myself stymied. I was prepared to castrate a couple of brown bats for a wildlife rehabilitation client, but once there, could not figure out how to do it without causing hemorrhage.

The VINDEX contains links to the most used and useful (or hard to find) VIN features.

The VINDEX is located on the upper right side of the Front Page, just below the navigation bar and is a handy tool to help you find many of the most popular VIN features. But if you really want to see the magic, from any page on VIN hold down your Ctrl button and push the “E” on your keyboard (Ctrl+E).

So the next time you are looking for the VIN Bookstore or the calculator you used a few weeks ago, use the VINDEX.

Traveling Dog
Dear Kanga: What in holy granola where you thinking eating my husband's passport 4 days before he left for South Africa? Good thing for you that the passport passed. I would like to remind you that I had to bribe him with a big fancy rifle scope just to bring you home, which means two things:
1) Do not make yourself more expensive, jackhole. I can't afford it.
2) You're pissing off a man who can probably drop you at 800 yards. Just sayin.
