Question of the Day

What's new in the Student Center? That's the Question of the Day! Try it out, then tell all the veterinary students you know about it! The Student Center is made possible through an educational grant from WALTHAM Diets.

Your staff and VSPN!

Remind your staff members to join Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN.org). VSPN provides free message boards and Rounds, and inexpensive continuing education. Your staffers will love it!
Click the VSPN button at the upper right on most VIN pages.

Having problems finding employees and equipment?
Use VIN's VetQuest classified ads. These online advertisements are free, and are available to anyone anywhere in the world (not just to VINners)! That's better coverage than any veterinary medical magazine can provide! Just click the VetQuest button and GO! (The VetQuest button is at the upper right on most of VIN's pages.)

VIN's CyberCafes are busy this year!
Upcoming events include:

Make a note to stop by VIN's CyberCafes and say hello.

(PSST! Early-Bird Registration is still available for the CVC, IVECCS, and SWVS. If you need some on-site CE -- or a break from your daily life -- take advantage of the savings. Sign up today!)

Evaluation of relationships between pretreatment patient variables and duration of isolation for radioiodine-treated hyperthyroid cats
Administration of the lowest efficacious dose possible is the dominant factor in reduction of duration of isolation for cats treated with 131I.

Comparison of peritoneal fluid and peripheral blood pH, bicarbonate, glucose, and lactate concentration as a diagnostic tool for septic peritonitis in dogs and cats
A blood-to-fluid glucose (BFG) difference greater than 20 mg/dL was 100% sensitive and 100% specific for the diagnosis of septic peritoneal effusion in dogs.

Bacteriological evaluation of dog and cat diets that claim to contain probiotics
The actual contents of the diets were not accurately represented by the label descriptions.

High Density Scheduling -- Thom's Vet Ec Article
High Density Scheduling is what is going to help raise production levels in the long run and allow doctors to see the maximum amount of patients without working longer hours.

Fecal Cytology vs Enterotoxin Assay For Clostridium
I would be willing to bet that very few practitioners can tell the difference between Clostridium perfringens and Bacillus spp. based on a gram stain.

Generalized Demodex In An Adult Mastiff: Ivermectin Dosage
Before initiating ivermectin therapy, we recommend to run a Knott's test. If positive, then first define heartworm status and treat microfilaria before starting these high dosages of ivermectin used for demodicosis.

Market Your Web Site to Clients
eVetsites, in partnership with VIN, is pleased to bring you a series of tips on making your website a success.

Tip #12:
Add your web address (www .yourpracticesite.com) to business cards, brochures, after care instruction hand outs, etc. Everyone that visits your practice should have your address when they leave. It takes time to educate clients to visit your site. Take advantage of every visit and every mailing to help direct clients to your new internet address.

Many practice management computer systems have a field on the invoice for you to put a default comment. Make sure your domain name is listed there as well. If you send monthly statements to your clients be sure to include your domain name on the monthly statement somewhere. Don't forget the Vaccine reminder card, there's another good place to update clients.

You can find all the latest tips from eVetsite Systems in the VIN library.
