The Ankle Bone's Connected to the Leg Bone
Veterinary orthopedics requires knowledge, a 3-dimensional mind, and the right equipment. VIN can't give you a 3D mind or a new set of bone plates, but the new Surgery-Orthopedic Center contains lots of useful information about orthopedic diseases, procedures and equipment.

The Surgery-Orthopedic Center can be reached through the About Page for the Orthopedics Message Board folder and the Specialty Centers page in the VIN Library.

How to Follow a Message Board Discussion Without Really Trying
There are several ways to quickly find those lost message board threads that piqued your interest.

  • Check the MyDiscussions box on the Message Boards main page to view discussions you started or posted to. You can also add or remove individual discussions to your MyDiscussions list using the tools at the bottom of each discussion thread. Read the Help Document for more details.
  • If you prefer to get an email when a new post is added to a discussion you're following, click the orange 'Subscribe' button at the bottom of the thread. Learn more.
  • Last but not least, you can also use MyActivities (Ctrl+M) to keep 'tabs' on your message board participation. Find out how.

Add Annotations from your Mobile Device
Adding annotations to images posted on the message boards makes it easy to direct the viewer's attention to a specific area of the image.

Now you can add annotations to your images from your mobile device on BETA.

See the help document to learn how.

Note: The VIN Geeks have not been able to test this new feature on every device available, so please share your feedback if you have any trouble using it.

Causes of death and the impact of histiocytic sarcoma on the life expectancy of the Dutch population of Bernese mountain dogs and Flat-coated retrievers
The study demonstrates that the death of at least 55.1% of Bernese mountain dogs and 63.8% of Flat-coated retrievers is associated with malignant tumours. In addition, it appears that over 1/7 of all Bernese mountain dogs and Flat-coated retrievers die because of histiocytic sarcoma. This emphasises the need for further research on tumours, especially histiocytic sarcoma.

Onset and quality of sedation after intramuscular administration of dexmedetomidine and hydromorphone in various muscle groups in dogs
The semimembranosus site had a significantly higher sedation score than all other sites, and the cervical site had a significantly higher sedation score than the lumbar and gluteal sites. The semimembranosus and cervical sites had significantly shorter time to onset of sedation than did the gluteal and lumbar sites.

Why Does It Take So Long To Desensitize An Atopic Dog?
Blocking antibodies is only one of the mechanisms by which immunotherapy works. Since the mast cell is only one small part of the disease process, affecting its function alone won't help with a lot of the inflammation.
