Need help remembering when Rounds sessions are happening? Here's a list of ways to be reminded about VIN Rounds sessions.

VIN Mentor: Video Procedures Manual
The VIN Mentor manual includes videos of complete medical procedures with narration, step-by-step instructions, and accompanying materials lists to help you perform the procedures with success.

The manual is currently divided into three sections (with more to come!):

  • Internal Medicine
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Nutrition

You can also print a PDF and take it with you as you perform each procedure.

To suggest a procedure or contribute your own videos, please email Tony@vin.com.

New to Posting on the VIN Message Boards?
Don't worry; it's easy! For example, post medical cases in the appropriate folder in the Vet-To-Vet message board - diet questions in Clinical Nutrition, kidney cases in Urology-Nephrology, coagulation disorders in Hematology-Hemostasis, etc.

Visit the Message Boards section of the Help Resource center for more detailed instructions on how to use the message boards.

New on VIN Mobile!
Now you can experience the Buchanan Cineangiocardiography Cases while on the go! The VIN Wizards have updated these cases to work on mobile devices.

Comparison of wet-mount, Wright-Giemsa and Gram-stained urine sediment for predicting bacteriuria in dogs and cats
Unstained wet-mount and stained sediment had sensitivities of 89% and 83% and specificities of 91% and 99%, respectively. The specificity of using either stain was higher than wet-mount examination for detecting bacteriuria.

Surgical Management of the Trauma-Induced Colocutaneous Fistula in a Horse

Long-term outcome of sudden acquired retinal degeneration syndrome in dogs
Polyphagia was the only associated systemic sign found to increase in severity over time. Medical treatment was attempted in 22% of dogs; visual improvement was not detected in any. Thirty-seven percent of respondents reported an improved relationship with their dog after diagnosis, and 95% indicated they would discourage euthanasia of dogs with SARDS.

Treatment Suggestions For Sheep With Dog Bite Wounds To Hocks
After dressing wound, wrap in sterile bandages and use elastikon. Don't use vet-wrap. Elastikon won't tighten up over time. Vet-wrap may rope up and then tighten and tourniquet the leg.

Chicken Necropsy: Oviduct Filled With Caseous Material
This is caseated pus, commonly seen in metritis cases. The layered effect is because of the way the pus is 'secreted' by the wall of the oviduct.

Colleague's Suicide Reminds Us To Rethink Our Psychological Responses To Clients And The Public
Our days involve heavy contact with humans. The overwhelming majority of those with whom we interact are not insane, mean, stupid, or uncaring. If we go into our days thinking the worst about those whom we meet (and who will eventually pay the bill), we set up a "them" and "us" mentality.

Is It Legal To Split Pills For Clients?
I cannot address state specific laws, but there is no federal law or regulation that prohibits splitting tablets.
