New Clinical Study: Seeking a Reaction
Did you know you can contribute to veterinary research without leaving your home or office?

New Study:

  • Certifect-associated Pemphigus Foliaceus-like Reactions
Researchers recently reported autoimmune pemphigus foliaceus (PF) in dogs in response to a topical amitraz-metaflumizone flea and tick control product (Promeris Duo, Pfizer). Dr. Thierry Olivry of the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking cases of suspected autoimmune reactions occuring at the site of another concentrated amitraz-containing product (Certifect, Merial).

Check the clinical trials page to see if any of the ongoing trials might make new or novel therapies available for your patients.

If you would like to add your clinical trial or research project, please complete this survey or contact mrishniw@vin.com.

Retrospective study of the prevalence of postanaesthetic hypothermia in cats
The variables associated with a decrease in the temperature recorded at the end of anaesthesia were the duration of anaesthesia, the reason for anaesthesia (abdominal and orthopaedic surgeries significantly reduced the temperature when compared with minor procedures) and the anaesthetic risk (high-risk cats showed lower temperatures than low-risk cats).

Seasonal variation in the hip score of dogs as assessed by the New Zealand Veterinary Association hip dysplasia scheme
Being born in the autumn was associated with a protective effect on hip phenotype in some breeds. These results suggest that weather and/or another seasonal factor may have a significant environmental effect on the phenotype of the coxofemoral joint.

Opinions on the usefulness of adipose-derived stem cell treatment
I have done a few procedures (Medi-vet) and feel it helps SOME things - definitely not a cure-all. Does seem to have some potential. I only use it for degenerative arthritic cases (for a few of my clients who have lots of money - which is the exception).

Differentials and diagnostic recommendations for severe respiratory signs in shelter dogs
I'm looking for suggestions on the cheapest way to try and figure out how to get a definitive diagnosis on these animals so we know how to clear up the problem at the shelter.

Difficult dental extractions: decision making, client communication, and balancing patient needs with the ethic of do no harm
I understand why people ask for help on how to do these procedures. You were probably taught nothing about dental/oral surgery at school and since getting out into the real world, it has been the blind leading the blind.
