VIN is Colleagues Helping Colleagues
If you have experience and knowledge that can help your fellow VINners with cases, practice management, and life, speak up! We're all in this together, and we learn from each other. VIN isn't a "you pays your dues and you gets an instant answer" world. VIN is VINners -- members, VIN Reps, Associate Editors, and Consultants -- helping each other with their cases and their lives. Some tips to help you get started: Welcome to VIN! ;-)

Herniation of the small intestine through the femoral canal after castration in a 3-year-old Thoroughbred
Shortly after the eviscerated small intestine was repositioned in the abdomen, the horse showed signs of colic and at the second surgery a 4.5m jejunal loop was found incarcerated in the femoral canal. After resection and anastomosis, the femoral canal was obliterated using large moistened gauze sponges. The horse made a complete recovery and returned to race training.
A randomized controlled trial of the efficacy of autologous platelet therapy for the treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs
For dogs that received platelet injections, lameness scores (55% decrease in median score), pain scores (53% decrease in median score), and PVF (12% increase in mean PVF) were significantly improved after 12 weeks, compared with pretreatment values.
Prevalence of uveal cysts and pigmentary uveitis in Golden Retrievers in three Midwestern states
Prevalences of uveal cysts (34.3%) and pigmentary uveitis (PU) (5.5%) in the examined Golden Retrievers were both higher than prevalences reported previously (5.4% for uveal cysts and 1.5% for PU) in the Canine Eye Registry Foundation's 2009 All-Breeds Report. Study findings have indicated that PU is not a rare condition and should be considered as a differential diagnosis for Golden Retrievers with ocular disease.

Elanco Animal Health Has Accused Me Of Drug Diversion
I don't message often, but Elanco has pushed me over the edge. We sell Trifexis and Comfortis at our two locations. I have 4 doctors between the two locations and we are pretty busy. I purchased 60 cartons of these products during November and December of 2013 to take advantage of free goods, delayed billing and a rebate. Elanco has decided that we purchased too much product in the year of 2013. I have been placed on their do not sell list.
We Have Been Seeing More Cases Of Feline Infectious Peritonitis: Is It Increased Prevalence Or Just A Coincidence?
While it doesn't happen often, it's not unexpected to have multiple cases in a litter of purebred cattery kittens. This probably relates to their shared genetics and sensitivity of their macrophages to infection with pathogenic coronavirus.
Dog Was Presented For Ovariohysterectomy By Boarding Kennel Staff And Owner Could Not Be Contacted: Should Dog Have Been Spayed?
Better to be yelled at for doing nothing wrong, than to be yelled at for something bad actually happening.
How Should I Deal With A New Charity That Traps Cats, Owned Or Not, And Wants Spays/Neuters?
I think that if our closest shelter won't deal with her, that will be answer enough for me in regard to dealing with her.

Knock on exam room doors? "I just read an article by Mary Ann Van Linde that recommends knocking on the exam room door. I don't currently do this, but it seems like a good idea. I will probably start in our cat room, but do you folks knock on exam room doors with dogs in the room? I worry this may get some dogs barking at the very least, and maybe even put them in "protection mode" like at home when strangers come to the door. Any thoughts?"
