ANIMALicious, the VIN Community's newest client education effort, facilitates the notion that communication between veterinarians and clients is not only okay, it is essential.

ANIMALicious' mission is to support you and all colleagues by helping clients understand behind-the-exam room issues. Written by magical leprechauns (also known as VIN Community veterinarians and staff), ANIMALicious encourages and accepts moderated comments from veterinarians and pet owners alike.

ANIMALicious takes Veterinary Partner one step further by tackling broader issues in a humorous but sometimes poignant manner.

The site has opened with just a few articles, but one or two will be added weekly. The first articles are:

Evaluation of dietary energy intake and physical activity in dogs undergoing a controlled weight-loss program
Design: Prospective clinical study. Animals-35 client-owned obese dogs (BCS > 7/9). Procedures: Dogs were fed a therapeutic diet with energy intake restrictions to maintain weight loss of approximately 2%/wk. Collar-mounted pedometers were used to record the number of steps taken daily as a measure of activity.

Pneumoesophagography and the appearance of masses in the caudal portion of the esophagus in dogs with spirocercosis
Pneumoesophagography was easily performed in dogs with spirocercosis and showed promise as a cost-effective and safe initial diagnostic procedure for further evaluation and characterization of suspected caudal esophageal lesions.

Truncations of titin causing dilated cardiomyopathy
Background: Dilated cardiomyopathy and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy arise from mutations in many genes. TTN, the gene encoding the sarcomere protein titin, has been insufficiently analyzed for cardiomyopathy mutations because of its enormous size.

Can the intranasal strangles vaccine be given orally?
One of the new vets doing a call at my wife's barn said they quit using the vaccine IN and started giving it orally as the target area was the tonsils anyway. I figured IN mucosal IGE as well is what it is supposed to stimulate. Since my wife's warm blood HATES nasal vaccines it would sure be easier.

Using OraStrip QuickCheck to detect and educate clients about periodontal disease
I do feel a little odd running a test that is going to tell me what I already know and have shown owners. However, my clients do not have the same experience or understanding that I do.

Possible employee theft of tramadol: tramadol classification in Illinois
The employee admitted once before that her husband smokes synthetic marijuana. I suspect one of them may be pilfering the tramadol so I am going to install a spy camera which looks like one of my burglar alarm motion detectors. My question is if I catch one of them stealing the tramadol on video and call the authorities, can I be in any trouble for not locking it up?

The VINDEX contains links to the most used and useful (or hard to find) VIN features.

The VINDEX is located on the upper right side of the Front Page, just below the navigation bar and is a handy tool to help you find many of the most popular VIN features. But if you really want to see the magic, from any page on VIN hold down your Ctrl button and push the “E” on your keyboard (Ctrl+E). So the next time you are looking for the VIN Bookstore or the calculator you used a few weeks ago, use the VINDEX.

Need Help?
If you ever feel lost trying to find your way around on VIN or overwhelmed by all there is to see and do, help is a click, email or phone call away!

Click Help on the VIN Main Navigation bar on almost every page to begin exploring the new and improved VIN Help Center.
