7th Edition Plumb’s in the VIN Library
The 7th edition of Donald C. Plumb's best-selling handbook contains over 20 new drug monographs as well as updated dosages for older monographs. There are several new ophthalmic and topical dermatologic drug monographs, and additional information on compounding dosage forms has been added to many monographs.

Access to Plumb's 7th edition is easy. If you saved links in your Favorites or your MyStuff for Plumb's 6th edition, they'll now take you directly to Plumb's 7th edition. VIN Search results will display results from Plumb's 7th edition as well.

The online edition is full-text searchable. Browse by major drug class or use the letter boxes to browse alphabetically.

You'll still be able to reference prior verions of the monographs by using the Version History tool.

Microbes Driving you Buggy?
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the Microbiology Image Library is worth millions. This collection of slides and notes, generously shared by VINner Dr. Michael Harter, contains clear images and descriptions of common organisms, cytology, histopath, and culture techniques.

So whether you are a microbiology diva or dunce, the Microbiology Image Library will help you and your team work your way through the land of culture and cytology.

Find it in the Multimedia section of the VIN Library.

Prevalence of cattle herds with ivermectin resistant nematodes in the hot sub-humid tropics of Mexico
The objective was to determine the prevalence of semi-intensive Bos indicus and Bos indicus × Bos taurus cattle herds with ivermectin (IVM) resistant nematodes in a sub-humid tropical zone of Mexico using the faecal egg count reduction test (FECRT). Thirty-three herds (28 beef and 5 dual purpose herds) were monitored in a period of 6 months (September 2008 to February 2009). Only 14 of the 33 herds were included in the trial.

What is a convenience euthanasia?
These words get used to define a situation that has moral significance to someone, yet I know from talking to others that it has a very different definition for most people. So does it mean a healthy animal? Or does one with behavioral problems qualify? Or does it include animals which could be easily treated but the owners wish not to? Or is it cases where the owner can afford to treat a case (very expensive) but chooses not to? Or is it any case at all that hasn't received maximum treatment?

Are reports of a new strain of canine distemper virus true?
I don't think that there is any cause for concern with respect to this strain not being protected against by currently available vaccines nor being more virulent than endemic strains (assuming it is, in fact, a "new" European strain). Certainly, all dogs should be appropriately vaccinated to be protected against any threat of canine distemper and it is always out there.

Cat with nasal cryptococcosis and nasal deformity: Antifungal treatment recommendations and response to therapy (photographs)
She had noisy nasal breathing due to a small size growth within the left nasal cavity protruding just outside of the nostril. We started her on 50 mg fluconazole sid, but the owner did not give any medication and came back in 4 months. Now the nose is deformed and looks like the one in the dermatology text book. My question is if she will get better and how this nose lesion will heal.

A vet for the next The Bachelor?
I am trying to imagine where they will find a bunch of gorgeous women willing to throw themselves at your typical veterinarian. Sure he will be sweet, kind and caring - but definitely not your jet-setting rich bachelor that we normally see. He will work 50 - 60 hours per week, make only 65-90k a year, have high student debt, and come home covered in pee, poop, and other unmentionables.
