Upcoming classes:

Welcome to AFP Imaging, the newest folder participant in the Vet Industry message board!

We're excited by the opportunities to share knowledge and support that AFP Imaging, will bring to the VIN community. Please take a moment to welcome our newest addition to the Vet Industry message board. Remember to post your questions about the company's products. (While you're in the industry folders, check out all of the other companies that are willing and able to answer your product questions!)

A Note From Paul About Industry on VIN:
As a result of the recent rapid rise in the number of industry folders on VIN, a few have written to ask if VIN has changed its position regarding independence from industry.

Rest assured that nothing has changed. VIN remains committed to the VIN Policies on Commercialism.

We all benefit from increased communication and access between colleagues in practice, academia, and industry. Facilitating this communication is our goal. We are pleased that more of our colleagues in industry are recognizing this and joining the discussion.

Diagnosis of infectious canine hepatitis virus (CAV-1) infection in puppies with encephalopathy
Nine weaned Labrador Retriever puppies from a litter of 11 were presented with signs of acute central nervous system (CNS) disease that included ataxia and blindness. All puppies died.

Natural killer (NK) and lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cell functions from healthy dogs and 29 dogs with a variety of spontaneous neoplasms
Cytotoxicity of effector cells against the susceptible CTAC cell line was measured before and after stimulation. Compared with those before stimulation, the percentage of large granular lymphocytes after stimulation with recombinant human interleukin 2 was found to be significantly increased in both dogs with tumors and controls. However, the increase was significantly higher in control animals, indicating a defect in proliferation ability of NK cells in canine tumor patients.

Cyclosporine treatment of anal furunculosis in 26 dogs
Cyclosporine was effective at resolving or reducing anal furunculosis lesions in 25 of 26 dogs (96 percent). However, residual or recurrent lesions remain a potential problem, and surgical resection or long-term cyclosporine treatment may be necessary in some dogs.

Magnetic resonance imaging findings of presumed cerebellar cerebrovascular accident in twelve dogs
The appearance of infarction in dogs with diffusion-weighted images (DWI) is similar to that in humans, and provided supportive evidence for the diagnosis of infarction in five dogs. The use of gradient-echo and DWI is recommended for the evaluation of suspected cerebrovascular accidents in dogs. Six of the 12 affected animals were spaniels or spaniel crosses, suggesting a possible breed predisposition.

Contract Concerns: Independent Contract Status And Production Pay Percentage
My boss wants each of the associates to form a Sub-S corporation. He would then pay us 1099 like he does our relief veterinarians. I understand how this is beneficial to him from a tax situation, but is it legal for me to incorporate myself without being a practice owner?

How Many Mistakes Should I Tolerate?
Most errors are not because of laziness nor stupidity, but rather a procedure that is wrought with holes. Fill the gaps to make sure it doesn't happen again, rather than being punitive.

How Do You Determine Minimum Alveolar Concentration??
MAC is the same thing as the "ED50" we talk about with other drugs. What is the dose that is effective in 50% of the patients? As such, at MAC, 50% of patients will not respond to the stimulus. But 50% will...

ECG Interpretation: No P-Wave?
APC stands for atrial premature complex, which is one form of a supraventricular premature complex - the other being a nodal (junctional) premature complex. There's no practical need to distinguish between the two, because the same types of things cause them and they are treated the same. If they are treated at all.
