Histophilus somni-induced infections in cattle from southern Brazil
Two Histophilus somni-associated syndromes were identified: systemic histophilosis (n=4) and abortion (n=1). The principal pathological findings included vasculitis, meningoencephalitis with thrombosis, necrotizing myocarditis, renal infarctions, hepatic abscesses, and bronchopneumonia.

Subcutaneous fluid port-associated soft tissue sarcoma in a cat
This is the first report of a fibrosarcoma arising at the site of a subcutaneous fluid port in a cat.

Xanthine urolithiasis causing bilateral ureteral obstruction in a 10-month-old cat
Urolith analysis by infrared spectrometry determined xanthine composition, and a higher blood and urine concentration of hypoxanthine and xanthine was also found. At 1-year follow-up, the cat was free of clinical signs. However, ultrasonography of the abdomen revealed small-size calculi in both kidneys, despite the low protein diet intake. The very young age of the animal suggests a possible congenital xanthinuria.

Purevax Backordered
Just got off the phone with Merial, Purevax backordered for problem with consistency of vaccine causing a gel like precipitate. They are looking at 6 weeks or more... since this is the only non-adjuvanted vaccine, what would folks recommend?

Is This New Supplement Really More Absorbable?
My Bayer rep is trying to get me to buy their new Omega-3 FA supplement. It is called Free Form. The product claims "the product is derived through a molecular distillation process which removes the glycerol backbone that allows one less step in the absorption process." Is there any advantage to this?

Social Media Firestorm Hits Clinic
Just saw this article reposted by the MVMA on Facebook. I thought it may provide a good thread for discussion. Unfortunately with social media and the general media being what it is (thinking about the Trifexis bad press) I think we will be seeing more and more of this.

Is This Blastomycosis?
Woo-hoo... you definitely have a snowstorm going on there. In addition to the finely nodular interstitial pattern there is a significant alveolar component as well. The only thing missing (but doesn't rule it out) is hilar adenopathy. Any chance that you could see Histo where you are? Lungs look the same but we don't usually see the lymphadenopathy with this.

    Cat Hates Alex Trebek
The first appointment of the day was a cat with a variety of anxiety issues (the most significant of which is likely the anxiety of her owners thinking they aren't doing a good job taking care of her, which they absolutely ARE).

The cat's problem: she hates Alex Trebek!

Apparently, as soon as Jeopardy comes on or whenever there is a close up of his face, the cat gets up and runs away; she will sometimes run around one of the chairs in the room several times, and starts growling.
