VIN Information... To Share or Not to Share?
Yes, your mother told you to share, but as the Internet has taught us, there is such a thing as over-sharing. Sharing the last cookie – good. Sharing pictures from that college party – not so good.

In one sense, VIN is all about sharing. VINners share Community information on the Message boards, in Rounds, CE classes, and more. VIN also hosts information such as conference proceedings and articles.

However, VIN will NEVER share your information with anyone without your permission. And since mutual consideration is part of community life, some restrictions exist on sharing VIN information with non-VINners. And above all, significant restrictions exist regarding sharing VIN information with non-veterinarinians. These conditions help protect all VINners and the integrity of the VIN Community.

Need specifics? A complete rundown of VIN Information and Privacy policies can be found through the VINDEX, but as a general rule, if you wish to share something you’ve found on VIN with a non-VIN audience, email or call membership services for permissions and instructions on referencing the information.

New Clinical Nutrition Specialty Center

The Clinical Nutrition Specialty Center incorporates resources from all over VIN and from outside websites on a variety of nutritional subjects such as:

  • Pertinent lectures
  • Notes
  • Proceedings

Stem cell-based tissue engineering in veterinary orthopaedics
Regenerative medicine is one of the most intensively researched medical branches, with enormous progress every year. When it comes to translating research from bench to bedside, many of the pioneering innovations are achieved by cooperating teams of human and veterinary medical scientists.

Single-dose pharmacokinetics of ceftazidime and fluconazole during concurrent clinical use in cold-stunned Kemp's ridley turtles (Lepidochelys kempii)
Results indicate that the ceftazidime dose and dosing interval used in this study are likely to be effective in treating susceptible strains of bacteria in Kemp's ridley turtles. However, the fluconazole dose and dosing interval are not likely to be effective against filamentous fungal pathogens that are often involved in marine turtle fungal infections.

The use of phenylbutazone in the horse
This review presents a brief historical prospective of the genesis of regulated medication in the US racing industry of which the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) phenylbutazone (PBZ) is the focus. It presents some historical guideposts in the development of the current rules on the use of PBZ by racing jurisdictions in the US. Based on its prevalent use, PBZ remains a focus of attention.

Masses on a Shar Pei are mast cell tumors
When your patient begins to look like a "normal" dog and loses his "Shar-Pei-ness" to a great degree, you will have the dose right and then you can back off. Watch the hocks... they should get more defined, skinny.

American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) for the emergency (ER) veterinarian
Many of the ER vets suggested that ABVP was geared towards the general practitioner and they would find little value in it. I passed boards this November and have wanted to express my insight about this board to you all. I have practiced emergency only for 15 years. This board certification has made me so much more knowledgeable about topics that are important in the management of my patients.

Coping with adversarial clients in integrative medicine
Since I have been doing Integrative Medicine for about a decade, I have encountered clients that I don't know how to talk to and who create a frustration unlike that encountered in regular practice. I fully accept that this could be me. The problem is I have an increasing number of clients that I feel should view me as an ally, yet see me as an adversary and I simply don't understand why. I think I may be taking it personally.

It's better than the Muppets
Considering how much my 6-year-old daughter likes surgery, anatomy, blood, and guts, I think that she could have a somewhat specialized but ultimately interesting career. When she was 3, she told me, "Mommy, you love me, but sometimes I freak you out." Yes, like when you matter of factly proclaim that "Plague Dogs" is your favorite movie.

OSHA & Practice Safety
April 9 - July 12, 2011

This course is designed for the Practice Owner, Manager or Administrator who desires to understand OSHA's Standards as well as practical ways to implement them in a veterinary practice. We attempt to avoid debating the merits of any particular requirement and focus on how to achieve compliance! This course will cover ALL aspects of a hospital safety program, not just the Hazard Communication Standard. The participants will be provided with many downloadable resources, including the actual text versions of applicable standards.

Behavior Business - Make it your Business
June 13 - July 7, 2012

This course is designed to help you learn how to incorporate behavior services into your general practice and make it profitable, while improving the welfare of your patients.
