New! Take a Bite Out of Time
Time-Bites - entertaining stories preserving the rich history of our profession -- brought to you by the American Veterinary Medical History Society (AVMHS) .

Got Tattoo? Answering the call: "Riders up!", a row of sleek and fit equine athletes made its way out of the paddock toward the starting gate. The identity of each one of the Thoroughbred horses in the starting line could be verified thanks to an original lip tattoo identification system. Learn the origin of this practice in this Time-Bite of the Week.

Find more Time-Bites in the VIN Library (Front Page > Library > Miscellaneous).

Vision is the art of seeing things invisible
-- Jonathan Swift

Big Text makes reading the Boards easier
-- Wise old veterinarian
The VIN Geeks couldn't figure out how to make the invisible visible, so they added more font choices. Choose from 10pt, 12pt, 13pt, 14pt and 16pt. Go to MyVIN > Preferences > Boards to change your discussion font size. (Note: Option changes can take up to 60 seconds to take effect.)

MyStuff 1.9.0 is Now on WWW.VIN.COM!

New features in MyStuff -- your favorite online filing cabinet and organizer are:

  • Deleted Folder
Recover items that you mistakenly deleted. Restore items (both folders and bookmarks) from the Deleted Folder by highlighting them and clicking "Restore" to the right of the item. Folders and the links within them and individual links are restored to your Main folder.
  • Improved Folder Behavior
The VIN geeks corrected the jumping and skipping that was happening when navigating through your folder list.

Want to play with new stuff on VIN before anyone else? Set Beta.vin.com as your VIN Homepage.

As with all things VIN, feedback and suggestions are appreciated.

Chocolate: How Much is Too Much?
Although chocolate can be good for us, it IS dangerous for your patients. If you're not sure how much is too much, let the Chocolate Toxicity Calculator help you plan your treatment strategy.

If you like the Chocolate Toxicity Calculator, you'll love the VIN suite of calculators. The MyCalculations suite allows you to save data for your patients, so that you can compare, print and share results from different visits. MyCalculations is available on Beta.vin.com and WWW.vin.com in the VIN Library and the VINDEX (Calc./Conversions).

Participate in Clinical Research!
Mark Rishniw needs your help. He's collecting sleeping respiratory rates on normal cats and dogs. If you have the opportunity to measure respiration rates of a healthy, sleeping dog or cat you can help. Just email Mark (mrishniw@vin.com) to get a data collection sheet, or if you need more information.

Bumping Into Your Colleagues? Log Out!
If you work in a multi-doctor practice, you want to make sure you are accessing and posting under your own name so you can enjoy your own personalized settings and MyStuff.

Logging out will also keep you and your colleagues from accidentally impersonating each other. This hasn't always been an easy task.

The solution is to set http://Beta.vin.com as the way you enter VIN.

The new VIN security system we are testing on Beta.vin.com has a log out function on every page as well as on the secondary security page.

More great new features are making their debut on Beta.vin.com! If you want the latest and greatest and want to be on the "bleeding" edge of where VIN is going, make Beta.vin.com your VIN Homepage.

Bovine respiratory syncytial virus seroprevalence and risk factors in endemic dairy cattle herds
At least one seropositive cow was present in all the herds. In 25% of the herds, all individuals were seropositive; 22% of the herds had all heifers seronegative.

Environmental risks and lymphoma
I am asked all of the time why a dog or cat got cancer. My typical answer is that it is multifactorial, and in the majority of cases there isn't a single identifying cause. Same as in people.

Dogs with microalbuminuria: diagnostic use of urine protein: creatinine ratio
Once a positive microalbuminuria test is obtained, ideally, a UPC should be measured for quantitation and comparison with future measurements.

Multifocal cutaneous mast cell tumors in a cat
I would never guess this was going to be MCT. With no cytoplasmic granules evident, I was leaning toward some sort of histiocytic tumor or plasmacytoma.

"How to Use VIN":
If you're having trouble finding your way around VIN, taking the How -To course can help you start getting the most from your membership! The live three-part "How To Use VIN" course can be taken on the first three Wednesday nights of each month, or if you prefer to learn at your own pace, you can do it as self study.

If you'd like to take the live sessions, e-mail Nate at Nate@VIN.com, and tell him you'd like to sign up for the How To Course.

On the right hand side of the VIN front page you'll find tips on using popular features such as Message Boards, Associate and the Search features. These tips rotate daily. The VIN How-To Videos also showcase the main features and functions VINners enjoy most.

Last but not least, every veterinarian member of VIN is paired with a buddy from the VIN Representative team! Your buddy wants to help you learn the tips and tricks to get the most from your VIN membership.

You should never feel lost or alone. Your buddy can help you navigate VIN like a pro, find the information you're looking for and personlize your VIN experience to fit your needs.

Don't remember who YOUR VIN buddy is? Email VINgram@vin.com and we'll be happy to remind you and let your buddy know you want to get re-introduced.
