Twenty-six years of post-release monitoring of Florida manatees (Trichechus manatus latirostris): evaluation of a cooperative rehabilitation program
Manatees born in captivity experienced poor success after release (14%), whereas the overall success of wild-born individuals was higher (72%). Manatees rescued as calves and held in captivity for more than 5 years had a high likelihood of failure, while subadults and adults had a high likelihood of success, regardless of the amount of time spent in captivity.

Adverse reactions following administration of contrast media for diagnostic imaging in anaesthetized dogs and cats: a retrospective study
Of dogs receiving iohexol, 64 (18.0%) had mild, 65 (18.3%) had moderate, and three (0.8%) had severe reactions. Of dogs receiving gadobutrol, 42 (9.9%) had mild, 87 (20.5%) had moderate, and one (0.2%) had a severe reaction.

The effects of acupuncture point Pericardium 6 on hydromorphone-induced nausea and vomiting in healthy dogs
Vomiting incidence post-injection was higher in the no acupuncture (20/27, 74.1%) and alternative acupuncture at Lung 5 (22/27, 81.5%) groups than in the acupuncture at Pericardium 6 (10/27, 37.0%) group.

Yesterday, after 25 years in practice, I saw my first corneal wood splinter foreign body. Proparacaine first, then a dry swab and it wiped right out leaving the most superficial ulcer ever.

I get to cross that off the list now.

Rational Use of Antibiotics: A case-based presentation from the ER
May 11 - 28, 2017

This interactive case-based session will discuss classification of antibiotics, mechanism of action, and an evidence-based way to choose treatment in a variety of diseases commonly seen in the ER setting. We will address the real issue of needing to use antibiotics immediately in septic patients but the difficulty in always differentiating those patients who have bacterial diseases and those who do not. We will discuss concepts of antibiotic resistance and how to maximize treatment success while minimizing risk of resistance.
