Taking Advantage of VIN
If you're having trouble finding your way around VIN, taking the How -To course can help you start getting the most from your membership! The live three-part "How To Use VIN" course can be taken on the first three Wednesday nights of each month, or if you prefer to learn at your own pace, you can do it as self study.

If you'd like to take the live sessions, e-mail Nate at Nate@VIN.com, and tell him you'd like to sign up for the How-To Course.

On the right hand side of the VIN Front Page you'll find tips on using popular features such as Message Boards, Associate and the Search features. These tips rotate daily. The VIN How-To Videos also showcase the main features and functions VINners enjoy most.

To keep up with VIN's growth, take the time to explore the Front Page at least once a week, read the VIN This Week (VINTW) newsletter twice a week, explore the VINDEX (VIN's Front Page, right hand column) and click all the buttons on VIN's navigation bars.

Last but not least, every veterinarian member of VIN is paired with a buddy from the VIN Representative team! Your buddy wants to help you learn the tips and tricks to get the most from your VIN membership.

You should never feel lost or alone. Your buddy can help you navigate VIN like a pro, find the information you're looking for and personlize your VIN experience to fit your needs.

Don't remember who YOUR VIN buddy is? Email VINgram@vin.com and we'll be happy to remind you and let your buddy know you want to get re-introduced.

MyActivities - The Feature Formerly
Known as Ctrl+M

Track and manage all of your message board and search activities in one place with the new and improved MyActivities feature.

(You'll want to make sure your browser is set to allow pop ups from www.vin.com. Learn how.)

Each tab contains details on searches you've performed and the different types of your message board participation, which you can filter by specific time frame.

Clicking on the column headers under each tab allows you to sort your message board activity by the criteria in that column -- such as folder name, subject, last date the discussion was updated and more.

Forgot to save your search results to your MyStuff? Use the 'My Search History' tab to view criteria and results for all searches you have performed within the specified time frame.

If your MySubscriptions or MyDiscussions lists are getting a little cluttered, remove the ones you no longer want quickly and easily in a couple of clicks!

REMEMBER: This feature is currently available ONLY on Beta.vin.com.

Retrospective evaluation of the use of amiodarone in dogs with arrhythmias (from 2003 to 2010)

Surgical management of laryngeal collapse associated with brachycephalic airway obstruction syndrome in dogs

Methods: A retrospective study of a consecutive series of 12 dogs suffering from life-threatening stage II or III laryngeal collapse associated with brachycephalic airway obstruction syndrome.

Should overweight pets receive treats for being well behaved during examination?
We all like to reward the pet for being well behaved and easy to work with, the owners really like it also BUT when I've just spent 5 minutes discussing their pet being overweight and needing a diet WHY DO THE TECHS STILL FEEL A NEED TO GIVE A BISCUIT(S)? I've told them time and time again not to offer a treat to a fat dog after the fat talk and they always reply - ah, she was so good.

What is your favorite non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug?
Simple question: What NSAIDS do the specialists prefer in their practice and why?

Personal experiences with alphaxalone in dogs and cats
Is it possible to give Alfaxalone SC (instead of IV or IM)? I read (on VASG) that you should not give Alfaxalone alone IM. You should combine it with, for example, Midazolam. Why can´t you give Alfaxalone alone? And is it only IM that needs to be combined with Midazolam (how about IV)? And can I mix Alfaxalone and Midazolam in the same syringe?

Vaccination controversy
On the cage notes for a cat: "flea and worm. vaccinated."
The nurse asked "Should I get the vaccine out for you?"
I said "No, it says it's already been vaccinated!"
She said "No, no, that means that it needs to be vaccinated!"
I said you'd better ask the receptionist who booked it in, just to be sure. The receptionist
said "Well, we haven't all been to university for as long as you have!"
