Comparison of owner-reported health problems with veterinary assessment of geriatric horses in the United Kingdom
The low prevalence and relatively poor agreement of owner-reported disease compared to that detected on veterinary examination suggests inaccurate or under-recognition, or inaccurate reporting of health problems by owners of geriatric horses, which could lead to a delay in presentation for veterinary treatment.
Spondylodiskitis secondary to Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus
Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus, traditionally classified under Group C Streptococci, is primarily a veterinary pathogen. Rarely, it may cause infections such as bacteremia, meningitis, endocarditis and pneumonia in humans. Musculoskeletal infections secondary to this pathogen are very uncommon.
Domestic dogs (Canis familiaris) as reservoir hosts for Rickettsia conorii
Rickettsia conorii is the causative agent of Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF) and Israeli spotted fever (ISF) transmitted by the brown dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus. In areas where MSF or ISF are prevalent, dogs have high prevalence of R. conorii -neutralizing antibodies.

Efficacy and application of Sanos Dental Sealant in dogs
I realize that Sanos "dental sealant" has been discussed a number of times before, but previously most dentists' response was, "it is not VOHC approved and I don't really have much to say until it is." Now it is VOHC approved as "helps control plaque, helps control tartar." So, could we revisit the discussion if anyone has anything to add?
Power of nothing: studying the placebo effect
The main theme of the article has to do with placebos and the finding that, when properly applied, they have real physiological effects as well as clinical benefit. This leads me to the question whether our nonhuman patients (not just their human care-ers) are able to receive benefit of placebos.
How to verify who owns a patient and can consent to treatment
What measures do you take, both at initial registration and subsequent to that, to keep your list of authorized people on an account current? How do you manage/maintain your list of authorized people? Who do you allow to make changes to the account - anyone listed as an authorized user or only the person in whose name the account is listed? How do you handle things when a non-listed person brings in a pet for treatment?
