Iron intoxication in a dog consequent to the ingestion of oxygen absorber sachets in pet treat packaging
Oxygen absorbers are commonly used in packages of dried or dehydrated foods (e.g., beef jerky, dried fruit) to prolong shelf life and protect food from discoloration and decomposition. They usually contain reduced iron as the active ingredient although this is rarely stated on the external packaging. Although reduced iron typically has minimal oral bioavailability, such products are potential sources of iron poisoning in companion animals and children.

Ochratoxin A in feed of food-producing animals: an undesirable mycotoxin with health and performance effects
Mycotoxins are secondary fungal metabolites, whose presence in feed and foodstuffs is unavoidable. Ochratoxin A (OTA) is one of the known mycotoxins with greatest public health and agro-economic significance. Several toxic effects have been ascribed following exposure, namely nephrotoxicity, as well negative impacts in the performance of farm animals, resulting in major economic implications.

Implantation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells demonstrates improved outcome in horses with overstrain injury of the superficial digital flexor tendon
Mesenchymal stem (progenitor; stromal) cell (MSC) therapy has gained popularity for the treatment of equine tendon injuries but without reports of long-term follow-up. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the safety and reinjury rate of racehorses after intralesional MSC injection in a large study of naturally occurring superficial digital flexor tendinopathy and to compare these data with those published for other treatments.

Dog with right heart failure: diuretic therapy can affect abdominal tap frequency, management considerations, and prognosis
I have treated many dogs for congestive heart failure, usually from presumptive mitral valve disease, but I have seen very few right heart failure (RHF) cases. If you had to generalize, does RHF tend to be more difficult to manage? What can I tell the owners about prognosis?

Broker contacted me about potential buyer for practice: What are my financial obligations to him?
Had a broker contact me about a client of his wanting to buy my practice. I told him I would consider it and he sent me a contract to sign. What is the reasonable percentage that I should pay him?

New practice owner wants associate to start work at a time that is inconvenient due to family responsibilities
From day one, I told my boss I can arrive by 8:15 and be ready for the 8:30. My old boss retired 3 months ago and the new boss, who is an associate, told me this week if I can't come at 8 am like everyone else in the next 6 months he will fire me and find a vet who can arrive at 8 am because he is losing potential revenue and paying staff members to be there at 8 am.

VINDEX - Faster than a speeding bullet
Want a fast, easy way to find your way around VIN? Use VINDEX. It's an index that contains links to the most used and useful (or hard to find) VIN features. A link to the VINDEX can be found in the upper right side of the Front Page, just below the navigation bar.

But wait... there's more!!! You can make the VINDEX appear from anywhere on VIN by pressing CTRL-E (hold down your Ctrl button and push the “E” on your keyboard). No need to go back to the Front Page to find the VINDEX.

So the next time you are looking for the VIN News Service, Library, Plumb's or even the calculator you used a few weeks ago, use the VINDEX from anywhere within VIN to find what you need faster.
