VIN/VSPN Rounds - Interpreting Nasal Radiographs
Nasal radiographs are an excellent first step in the analysis of nasal disease, but interpreting the results is sometimes frustrating.

Join Dan Heder, DVM this Sunday night at 10 p.m. ET for some tips on Sniffing out Information from Nasal Radiographs.
Invite your staff to attend via www.vspn.org.

*This session is all text, no audio.

Use the Rounds link in the main navigation bar to join the discussion.

If you can't attend, check the Rounds or Front Page of VIN, or next Tuesday's VIN This Week, for links to the transcript of the discussion.

Hormonally Enhanced Pets? Oops!
Have you treated any suspected or confirmed cases of secondary pet exposure to topical hormone treatments? Help your colleagues investigate this phenomenon by taking the Exogenous Hormone Exposure Survey.

The objective of this survey is to collect data on clinically treated cases in order to assist in establishing and publishing baseline information.

Please complete a separate survey for each case you have seen. No personal information will be shared with the investigators without your explicit consent.

If you participated in any other surveys and haven't yet seen those results, stop by the VIN Survey Results Archives.

New Login Page With More Help
The Login page on Beta.vin.com has a different look, but VIN Security has NOT changed.

The old login page had a single purpose - to log in. The goal for the new page was to include solutions and guidance for the most common login issues and to make it more “mobile device friendly".

Keep an eye on this section of VIN This Week to learn about the latest toys Beta.vin.com.

Prognostic significance of weight changes during treatment of feline lymphoma
Weight change over time was compared according to cell type (small versus large), location (gastrointestinal versus non-gastrointestinal) and baseline weight. Cats with large cell lymphoma that lost ≥5% body weight at 1 month had significantly shorter LSS than those that gained or had stable weight (P = 0.004). Percentage weight change over time differed significantly according to baseline weight group.

Prevalence of canine methicillin resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Italy
The overall prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) was 2% (10/590) among 590 canine specimens submitted to an Italian veterinary diagnostic laboratory during a two-month period, and 21% (10/48) among Staphylococcus intermedius group (SIG) isolates.

Penile amputation and scrotal urethrostomy in 18 dogs
The objective of this study was to report the signalment, indications for surgery, postoperative complications and outcome in dogs undergoing penile amputation and scrotal urethrostomy. Medical records of three surgical referral facilities were reviewed for dogs undergoing penile amputation and scrotal urethrostomy between January 2003 and July 2010.

Orange-colored urine in a cat eating Tiki cat brand food; persistent hematuria present when cat later diagnosed with pemphigus
I do suspect that the neon orange color to the urine was secondary to the Tiki cat diet because that resolved once the food was discontinued; however, the hematuria was secondary to kidney changes and not cystitis.

Detailed advice on artificial insemination with frozen cattle semen
I seem to remember something about having to go in rectally, grab the cervix and kind of thread the straw through the cervix by manipulating the cervix up down and around. Does the straw need to be thawed in water, or just allowed to come to room temp, or even that?

Dog with oral ulcerations and necrosis following treatment with malaseb shampoo and cephalexin
My relief veterinarian dispensed Malaseb shampoo for lip pyoderma in a springer spaniel. Owner instructed to dilute and swab lips daily with this. Also placed on cephalexin 500mg twice daiy and prednisone 20mg once daily. I got to do the recheck 2 days ago. The dog was salivating profusely, and the oral mucosa (inner lips) were flaming red and ulcerated. I stopped the malaseb and continued the cephalexin and reduced the prednisone to 10mg once day, hoping it would reduce inflammation.

Colleagues working in the same practice qualify for group membership rates! Each practitioner enjoys the benefit of an individual account and personal login - maintaining preferences and professionalism - with the added convenience and savings of Group Membership billing.

Remember, there is no such thing as a VIN 'Hospital' membership where all colleagues use the same login. Every colleague at every hospital must have their own account/login, even if the billing is handled as a group membership within their hospital. (Check out this discussion on the VIN message boards about sharing login details.)

This FAQ will explain how group memberships work. If you still have questions contact membership services at vingram@vin.com, or call membership services at 1-800-700-4636 (toll free) or 1-530-756-4881 (locally) or 01 45 222 6154 in the UK.

Heads up
Ariel likes to escape her nemesis by climbing up onto the highest shelf in our master closet. I usually don't know she's even up there until I walk in, turn the light on, and get a friendly chortle from up there. Ariel is very skittish, especially around my husband, and when she first started doing it I would hear a high-pitched scream, a yowl, a thud, and the thunder of a cat racing by on almost daily basis. Whenever he'd go into the closet she'd freak out and jump, and he'd have flying cat coming at his head and they'd both scream.
