The Wonderful World of Skunks
While you might think of skunks as a reason for emergency dog bathing, some people see them as pets. This Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET, Sandra Mitchell, DVM, DABVP, will introduce the basics of husbandry and veterinary care for skunks so you can reach for your stethoscope instead of a gas mask and bottle of tomato juice.
Please note the early start time -- 8 p.m. ET
*This session will be all text, no audio.

New Clinical Study: Hypoadrenocorticism in Standard Poodles
With a little help from VIN, you can participate in clinical research from your home or office.

  • Investigating the Genetic Basis of Hypoadrenocorticism in Standard Poodles
Katharine Lunn and Steven Friedenberg of North Carolina State University would like to compare blood samples from Standard Poodles with confirmed typical hypoadrenocorticism (Addison's disease) with samples from Standard Poodles over 10 years of age that have normal ACTH stimulation test results.

If you're interested in participating, contact Dr Kathy Lunn.

Check the Clinical Trials & Research page to see if any of the ongoing trials might make new or novel therapies available for your patients.

If you would like to add your clinical trial or research project, please complete this survey or contact mrishniw@vin.com.

Business Startup Plan Materials
Starting your own practice can be scary. Frustrated by the lack of resources available when she was starting out, VINner Christine Ortner wanted to help others avoid some of that stress. She's shared the diary of her startup and her business plan with the VIN community.

If you're thinking about starting your own practice, or know someone who is, take advantage of this resource!

Help grow this collection of Business Startup materials. Share your experiences and lessons learned from your own startup and during the life of your practice. Email to Feedback@vin.com.

Computed tomography and cross-sectional anatomy of the normal dromedary camel tarsus (one humped camel)
The resulting images provided detailed anatomic features for bones, joints, and soft tissue components of the tarsus and are intended to serve as a basic reference for the CT scanning of the dromedary camel tarsal pathology.

Initial treatment factors associated with feline urethral obstruction recurrence rate: 192 cases (2004-2010)
At 24 hours and 30 days after initial urinary catheterization (IUC), recurrent urethral obstruction (rUO) rates in prazosin-treated cats were significantly lower than rates in phenoxybenzamine-treated cats. Reobstruction rate at 24 hours was significantly lower when a 3.5F versus 5F urinary catheter was used.

Estimation of effectiveness of three methods of feral cat population control by use of a simulation model
This model allowed for many factors related to the trapping program and cats to be varied and should be useful for determining the financial and person-effort commitments required to have a desired effect on a given feral cat population.

What Do Different Types Of Insurance Policies Cover?
Insurance policies generally cover negligent and reckless behavior, but not intentional behavior. Behavior that is criminal, dishonest, fraudulent, malicious, or a willful violation of law (all traditionally excluded in insurance policies) have one thing in common: they require an intentional act.
