VIN Basic Training
If you're having trouble finding your way around VIN, taking the How-To course can help you start getting the most from your membership! The live three-part "How To Use VIN" course is in session on the first three Wednesday nights of each month, or if you prefer to learn at your own pace, you can do it as self-study. The next series begins on Wednesday, March 5 at 9:30 p.m. ET. If you'd like to take the live sessions, e-mail HowTo@VIN.com to sign up for the course. Welcome to VIN!
Replay Rounds Sessions!
Participate in rounds on your own schedule! Replay is like attending the live session, except you'll post your questions and comments to the Message Boards. Look for Rounds Replay on the left side of the individual Rounds pages and in the In this Rounds... box at the top of the transcript. Try it now: Let us know what you think!

New Words
Anybody else have some made up words they use in practice? Here's a few I use: - Inappropriator - a cat exhibiting inappropriate urination (that's a tongue twister)
- Adoplication - an adoption application
- Earrhea - soupy pseudomonas ear discharge
- Buttsplosion - explosive diarrhea
- The Butt Walk - scooting
- Bejometer - glucometer (derivation BG-ometer)
Any others out there?

Treatment of canine idiopathic immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia with mycophenolate mofetil and glucocorticoids: 30 cases (2007 to 2011)
Administration of mycophenolate mofetil appears safe in dogs with idiopathic immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia. The combination of glucocorticoids and mycophenolate mofetil has similar efficacy to alternate immunosuppressive protocols used to treat this disease.
Histopathological changes in the lungs from dogs with tick paralysis: 25 cases (2010-2012)
Dogs with clinically severe tick paralysis are likely to have pulmonary parenchymal disease. Bronchopneumonia may be present in a significant proportion of cases and may reflect aspiration.
Influence of oxytetracycline on carprofen pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics in calves
These data indicate that no alteration to carprofen dosage is required when it is co-administered with oxytetracycline.

Persistent Spinning In A Dog: Possible Causes And Treatments
There is a poorly understood syndrome in bull terriers that presents like this. It is unclear whether this is a behavior disorder or not.
Semintra (Telmisartan): An Angiotensin Receptor Blocker For Proteinuria In Chronic Renal Failure Cats
I wanted some advice about using an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) instead of an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) for proteinuria in chronic renal failure cats.
Older Dog With Tachypnea And A Heart Murmur: Checking For Pulmonary Edema When Radiographs Are Inconclusive
This is a classic example of why we like to use sleeping respiratory rate (SRR) so much in these types of case. Is there pulmonary edema present in the caudodorsal lung fields? It's impossible to say. There is increased density there, but old dog lungs on expiration look like that. And that hides pulmonary edema.
Can A Cat Be A Service Animal?
While the Americans with Disabilities Act no longer allows cats to be service animals with public access, cats can still function as emotional support animals under the Fair Housing Act of 1968 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
