Abdominal aortic chondrosarcoma in a dog
Although clinical presentation suggested a thromboembolism and pituitary dependent hyperadrenocorticism was suspected as a predisposing cause based on adrenal function tests and ultrasonography, an aortic chondrosarcoma originating from the distal abdominal aorta was diagnosed with histologic examination.

Analysis of epidermal lipids in normal and atopic dogs, before and after administration of an oral omega-6/omega-3 fatty acid feed supplement. A pilot study.
Electron microscopy revealed that the non-lesional skin of atopic dogs exhibited an abnormal and largely incomplete structure of the lamellar lipids with little cohesion between the corneocyte strata. The SC of atopic dogs was characterized by a significant decrease in the lipid content when compared to the healthy controls. Following oral supplementation with the mixture of essential fatty acids, the overall lipid content of the SC markedly increased.

Owner sued for sentimental value damages after dog was incorrectly euthanized by animal control
This is an important decision handed down by the Texas Court of Appeals in a case regarding the accidental euthanasia of a dog by animal control. It's important because the thinking of the appeals court is clear, rational, and logical.

Corneal ulcer in a pot-bellied pig: treatment options, including topical vs. systemic administration of antibiotics
One thing about treating eye problems of pot-bellied pigs is that if you get them sitting on their butt between your knees, they will be sufficiently upset that they will forget to blink. Probably could put a brick in there without any response.

Improving our anesthetic protocols in cats: use of dexmedetomidine and other drug combinations
We discovered many variations (with a VIN search), including replacing the butorphanol with hydromorphone or buprenorphine. We really like having our pre-med and induction meds being combined in one IM injection and would like to continue to do this, if possible. We don't mind having more than one IM protocol--one for fractious cats and one for nice ones, or one for painful procedures and one for non-painful ones.

You dirty dog
When I was on senior rotations in vet school, when a patient was ready to be discharged the receptionists would page the student in charge of the patient over the intercom. So everyone in the hospital hallways would hear... "Student in charge of Spot Smith, Spot Smith is ready to go home." Well, there was one frequent client with the last name "Ho" who named his dog "Dirty." The receptionists took great pleasure in paging, "Dirty Ho is ready to go home. I repeat, DIRTY HO is ready to go home!"
