Featured Item: Understanding Veterinary Dentistry - Hale - 2004 List $75.00 - VINner Price: $67.50
The key to managing any condition is thoroughly understanding it. Understanding Veterinary Dentistry will help the student, technician and general practitioner do just that. It will not teach the reader how to do root canal therapy, but it will teach them how to recognize when such therapy is indicated and why. This 220-page book contains 23 chapters, five appendicies and an index. The text is richly supported by over 200 illustrations and photographs. Find it in the VINstore.

Immune Cell Populations in the Duodenal Mucosa of Cats with Inflammatory Bowel Disease
The classification of feline IBD might be improved by considering the distribution of the leukocyte subsets in the mucosa based on immunohistochemical studies. Criteria for scoring the disease activity and stages should be considered based on such findings.
Prevalence of Diseases of the Spinal Cord of Cats
Results of this histopathologic study showed that FIP and LSA were the most common disease processes affecting the spinal cord of cats.
Cyclooxygenase-2 Expression in Canine Appendicular Osteosarcomas
The study findings suggest that strong COX-2 expression in tumor cells may be associated with more aggressive forms of osteosarcoma and cosequently, serve as a predictor of poor outcome.
Determination of functional and morphologic changes in palmar digital nerves after nonfocused extracorporeal shock wave treatment in horses
Nonfocused extracorporeal shock wave treatment of the metacarpophalangeal area resulted in lower sensory nerve conduction velocities in palmar digital nerves. This effect likely contributes to the post-treatment analgesia observed in horses and may result in altered peripheral pain perception. Horses with preexisting lesions may be at greater risk of sustaining catastrophic injuries when exercised after treatment.

Client Confidentiality Issues
HIPAA is human only, but some states (Georgia is one) do treat veterinary records as confidential. We had the Georgia laws changed after a newspaper reporter attempted to obtain copies of veterinary medical records associated with a high profile serial murder case.

Can You Induce Heart Murmurs By Pressing Too Hard with a Stethoscope?
A resident told me that you can induce a murmur by pressing too hard on the chest with your stethoscope while ausculting the heart. So, if you hear one, just let up slightly and often the murmur will disappear. ...It's just suddenly occurred to me that maybe that resident was giving me wrong information...
How Long Before Ear Drums Grow Back After Myringotomy?
Most ear drums will grow back in 21 days as long as the infection is clearing...I do not think that the majority of dermoids routinely do myringotomies on every case...If the TM is obviously unhelathy, I find that it usually is already ruptured or gets torn during gentle cleaning procedures. So, if it remains intact and seems sturdy, I wait on myringotomy until the patient has failed 1-2 rounds of treatment. (I have had to perform only 2-3 myringotomies in the last couple of years).
