Just be Yourself!
If you work in a multi-doctor practice, access and post under your own name so you can enjoy your own personalized settings and MyStuff. Each VIN page has a Log Out button near the top right. Logging out will also keep you and your colleagues from accidentally impersonating each other. If you've forgotten your VIN login check out the list of frequently asked questions about VIN login issues created by the VIN Membership team. Did you know that colleagues working in the same practice qualify for group membership rates? If more than one member of your practice is using a single VIN login, you and your colleagues should each have your own login and be billed as a group membership. This helpful FAQ will explain how group memberships work. If you still have questions contact membership services at vingram@vin.com, or call membership services at 1-800-700-4636 (toll free) or 1-530-756-4881 (local).

Enteropathogenic bacteria in dogs and cats: diagnosis, epidemiology, treatment, and control
Basic practices of isolation, use of appropriate protective equipment, and proper cleaning and disinfection are the mainstays of control. Handwashing with soap and water is preferred over use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers because spores of C. difficile and C. perfringens are alcohol-resistant, but susceptible to bleach (1:10 to 1:20 dilution of regular household bleach) and accelerated hydrogen peroxide.
The efficacy and safety of a novel lipophilic formulation of methimazole for the once daily transdermal treatment of cats with hyperthyroidism
In this 12-week trial, once daily application of a novel formulation of transdermal methimazole applied to the pinnae was as effective and safe as twice daily oral carbimazole in the treatment of cats with hyperthyroidism. This novel formulation and transdermal application could have practical advantages to some pet owners.

Workup for a dog with bark changes caused by suspected laryngeal paralysis (radiographs)
Thyroid panel was run and is not suggestive of hypothyroidism. Today, neck and chest rads were run and other than a mild interstitial pattern were NSF in my opinion. Her vocal folds appear edematous and did not even abduct. If this is true laryngeal paralysis and owner opts to not tie back is there something that I should be monitoring in terms of function?
Are lab coats a thing of the past or an aid to increasing client compliance?
My LVT went to a behavior seminar yesterday evening. The presenters said that white lab coats can increase fear in pets, but "hardly anyone wears them anymore, anyway." Is it true? Am I a white-coated dinosaur?
How much should we tolerate from rude and demanding clients? Tips on talking to clients about overweight pets
A lot of you on VIN encourage firing clients for more extreme situations - but what about the ones who consistently hover just below that threshold?

What's the point? New patient was coming in for exam/update vaccines. I was reading through the faxed record from previious DVM and found this gem: "What is the point the dog is as mean as a snake. Would hurt you thru the muzzle if he could grab and pinch you. Too tense to check his legs, won't lay down, forget it. Both stifles feel like they don't have effusion, ? on the right actually. Thinking hips or low back? O to start gluc/chondroitin 1500mg/750mg daily for 8 weeks. Also try Deramaxx 75 mg daily for 2 weeks. Check in by phone, can't do an exam."

NAVLE® Review and Preparation February 3 - April 4, 2012 This course consists of seven (7) 2-hour real-time sessions and is organized by species; each session will highlight the "Top 20" diseases and conditions encountered by practitioners in the U.S. and Canada. All sessions include multiple-choice questions similar to those that candidates will encounter on the NAVLE®. The questions will lead to a brief discussion and summary of each condition in a distilled format. We will cover NAVLE® study plans and exam strategies and provide strategies for reviewing topics not covered in the "Top 20s." The last session will include a mock examination. Common Toxicants March 6 - April 4, 2012 Participants will learn about a variety of common toxicologic hazards that are frequently encountered by pets during the spring and summer months of the year, including the toxicology of hazardous indoor and outdoor plants, seasonal household items that are of toxicologic significance and outdoor hazards that pets may encounter during the spring and summer months. For more information on CE opportunities for veterinary technicians, receptionists or practice managers, visit the VSPN Course Catalog.
