Seasonal pasture myopathy/atypical myopathy in North America associated with ingestion of hypoglycin A within seeds of the box elder tree
For the first time, seasonal pasture myopathy has been linked to a toxin in seeds abundant on autumn pastures whose identified metabolite is known to cause acquired multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency, the pathological mechanism behind seasonal pasture myopathy and atypical myopathy.

Veterinary attitudes towards pre-pubertal gonadectomy of cats: a comparison of samples from New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom
Most respondents believed pre-pubertal gonadectomy was either entirely or 'sometimes' desirable (556/621); few thought it was undesirable (65/621). Minimum age at gonadectomy was significantly affected by country surveyed and provision or non-provision of services for pounds.

Evaluation of clinical and histopathologic prognostic factors for survival in canine osteosarcoma of the extracranial flat and irregular bones
Controlling for ALP elevation, dogs with osteosarcoma located in the scapula had a significantly greater hazard for death (2.8) compared to dogs with tumors in other locations. Controlling for tumor location, every 100% increase in ALP from normal increased the hazard for death by 1.7.

Funny And Depressingly Bad Resumes

This wasn't a resume, but a job interview. I was looking for a part time afternoon kennel person and asked the high school if they had a work program. They sent me this nice young man for an interview. I asked him if he had any animal handling experience. He answered, "I ride my pig."

Neonatal Wildlife Medicine
February 5 - March 15, 2014

The primary purpose of this course is to provide a basic understanding of the principles of care for neonatal North American wildlife. The course will include details on the common syndromes and diseases with which orphaned or abducted wildlife patients present to a clinic, the approach to triage, emergency treatment and monitoring of the wildlife patient, the most notable infectious and non-infectious diseases of wildlife, and the public health and legal implications of treating wildlife.

Organized by species, each Real Time Session will highlight the "Top 20" diseases and conditions encountered by practitioners in the U.S. and Canada. topics not covered in the "Top 20s." The last session will include a mock examination.
