COURSE DESCRIPTION

The first module of this two module course will cover the general central nervous system exam and diagnostic procedures applicable to equine neurologic disease. Specific diseases included in this module will be cervical vertebral stenotic myelopathy, equine protozoal myeloencephalitis, EHV-1 myeloencephalopathy, equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy and equine motor neuron disease.

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be expected:

Week 1:
CNS Exam (Reed/Furr)
Localization and Diagnosis
Diagnostic testing (Reed/Andrews)
Localization and Diagnosis
Topics include : A/O CSF, L/S CSF, EEG, EMG, BAER

Week 2
Cervical vertebral stenotic myelopathy (Reed/Robertson/Grant)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis ,treatment and outcome will be discussed

Week 3
Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (Reed/Saville/Furr)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis ,treatment and outcome will be discussed

Week 4
Equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy (Reed/Robinson/Murphy)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis ,treatment and outcome will be discussed
Equine motor neuron disease (Reed/Robinson/Nout)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis ,treatment and outcome will be discussed

Week 5
EHV-1 Myeloencephalopathy (Kohn/Nout/Robinson/Reed)
Background, etiology, localization, diagnosis ,treatment outcome, and prevention will be discussed

CE HOURS: 10 CE Credits

COURSE WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY: Withdrawal prior to the listed start date of a course entitles the registrant to a complete refund or a credit toward a future VIN CE course, whichever is preferred. Withdrawal within 1 week after the listed start date (i.e. including no more than one real-time session) entitles the registrant to a credit toward any future VIN CE course. (Does not apply to courses with only one real-time session.) After the first real-time session, a registrant may withdraw due to special circumstances and receive prorated credit towards a future VIN course. These requests will be handled on an individual basis. The amount of the prorated credit will be determined based on 65% of the time remaining in the course at the time of withdrawal. It is not possible to withdraw retroactively.
