Introduction

Digital information is becoming increasingly popular. In some cases, the information is available solely in digital format. Scientific articles are published "ahead of print", or exclusively digitally, and textbooks are also being published in a digital format. Citing such information can be challenging.

This FAQ outlines some of the recommended formats for citing various information found on VIN in scientific manuscripts, and provides examples. These are based on the 4 most common recommendation sources: Modern Language Association (MLA), Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), Council of Biology Editors (CBE), and American Psychological Association (APA). These are only guidelines. Authors should refer to journal guidelines for specific citation formatting, if available.
