In the beginning
Since 1991, VIN has been and always will be — for veterinarians, by veterinarians®.
At its heart, VIN exists for one reason: to serve and support veterinarians and the veterinary profession. All VIN content, tools, and other resources are developed and constantly improved with the feedback and participation of members (VINners) in mind.
VIN was founded by veterinarians who understood the power of bringing colleagues together, and that legacy lives on today. The VIN team includes hundreds of bright, passionate veterinarians who pour their expertise into everything we do — from creating clinical resources to developing decision-making tools. Whether you come to VIN for clinical information, career guidance, or to be part of something larger, you can trust that your veterinary colleagues are working behind the scenes to support you inside the clinic and out.

For veterinarians, by veterinarians® is the very foundation upon which the VIN Core Principles are built.
No selling or sharing member data, ever.
Your membership belongs to you, even if your employer pays for it.
100% free from advertising and sponsorship.
Because the best, science-based medical advice comes from your colleagues and specialists — not sponsors.
Stand up for science, even when it's unpopular.
VIN will never be sold or turned into a profit-making machine. It will ultimately be gifted to the VIN Foundation, the non-profit arm of VIN, where it will continue to serve veterinarians.
"It took about a decade and living through the dot.com era to learn an important lesson: VIN can't serve two masters. We realized the only way to ensure independence was to not be dependent upon anyone other than our constituency -- our colleagues -- VIN Members -- you."
- Paul D. Pion, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology)
Seek continual improvement.
Feedback links on every page encourage colleagues to share their thoughts, creating a continuous loop of improvements based on member feedback.
Actively listen to members' needs.
Every feedback submission is read by VIN Staff, including full-time veterinarians (known as Community and Information Coordinators) and often even Paul Pion himself.
Prioritize member feedback.
VIN staff gather for weekly Make Them Happy meetings to highlight and discuss the latest member feedback, turning input into change.
Most of the great things on VIN exist because a VIN member asked for it.
"I like the new look and easy to navigate dashboard. Thanks for all you do!"
